This novel about a young slave girl who risks an escape from serving a Sumerian queen is an excellent follow-up to A Young Historian's Introduction to Worldview. This is the first novel in a series of four Engaging Thinkers Historical Novels. Written for fifth- through eighth-grade students, but we strongly encourage you to read them aloud to promote thoughtful family discussions.
A highly recommended Christian Reader's Guide is now available separately!

Purchased for my 3rd grade homeschooler. We use words we don't know for our daily vocab and the places as a base for our middle eastern geography unit. We love the theme and discussions!
We are studying Abraham (Genesis) and Ancient Sumer in our Bible time. This book gave a really good picture of what it would have been like to live during this time period. Abraham was even mentioned as "a man who only believes in one God". It resulted in many good conversations with my children about the One True God and the gods of false religions. There are different (false) gods mentioned in this book but they do not go into detail on the dark side of the religions. At the same time, they give a good view of how pointless it is to believe in gods that aren't real.
