Once upon a time…
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is one of the most famous fairy tales in the world, and was Disney’s earliest animated feature film. Working with the idea that there is no better way for your child to learn logic than with his hands, Smart Games took this classic tale and came up with a wonderful logic game for the Pre-K crowd. Familiar characters include dwarfs, a wicked stepmom (see our cautionary note below), Snow White, and a two-story forest cottage. Manipulating the colorful pieces as he analyzes each clue will help your child to identify the logical locations for each person, including the room they are in and the floor they are on.
Snow White’s beginning puzzles are easy – everyone is placed except for one character, where does the last character go? But the more abstract clues in later challenges – perhaps the orange and red dwarfs must be together, or the purple dwarf cannot be in the blue room – will require a bit more thought. Your child will place each piece until every character has a landing spot, then turn the page to check the solution. There are different puzzles for each side of the Snow White colorful 3-D home. Snow White will help your child develop the logic, comprehension, visual tracking, and mental organization skills vital to academic success.
Our thoughts on the fairytale behind the game:
As a fledgling foster family, the Snow White story is certainly not appropriate for our traumatized kiddos. So we tossed the scary, though nicely-illustrated, storybook that accompanies this game, and we refer to dwarfs as brothers and to the wicked step-mother as the crabby lady with an apple. You may not need to make the same adaptations, but we felt the game’s brilliance in design should not be hampered by a complex and somewhat horrifying storyline.
