The Bible: It's Not Just Curriculum

(It's So Much More!)

Every year, someone asks:

"Hey, why doesn't Timberdoodle pack Bible studies into their curriculum kits?"

And here's the thing:

The Bible isn't a checklist item.

It's not Tuesday's 10:30 subject or a worksheet to fill in. It's life.\

Bible time should happen daily—rain or shine, homeschool or public school, good moods or grumpy ones. It's woven alongside shouted prayers in the car, bedtime conversations, and playing praise songs while doing dishes.

And honestly? Bible time should fit your family—your hearts, rhythms, maybe even what you're learning at church.

Why We Don't Add Bible to the Kits

When our kids were tiny, family devotions were a nonnegotiable. Bible teaching wasn't a subject; it was part of our lives.

But here's what worried us: Too often, "Bible curriculum" meant workbook pages—read and regurgitate.

Kids need more than facts about lions' dens and stone-slinging shepherds (though The Action Bible is fantastic for that).

They need massive amounts of real, intimate, daily input to fully grasp the wonder of the gospel.

And one of the best ways to get there?

Daily family devotion time.

Why Not Just Assign Bible Reading?

We all want kids who eagerly open their Bibles every day.

But be honest—have you ever caught yourself "reading" a chapter in your Bible while planning dinner in your head?

Kids struggle with that, too.

A daily devotional makes it personal.

It's a chance to discuss Scripture together, discuss real-life struggles, and connect the Word to what's happening right now.

You know your kids best—you can adapt, dig deeper, and bring it to life in a way no workbook ever could.

But Why Not Bundle Devotionals into Every Kit?

Because your family is unique—and so is your walk with God.

Many of our favorite devotionals, like Long Story Short and Old Story New, are built to be used for years across a wide range of ages.

Rather than squeezing one choice into every kit, we'd rather point you toward the best resources and let you choose what fits your family best.

What's the Real Goal?

Straight A's are nice.

Finishing the year's checklist feels great.

But knowing and loving Jesus?

That's everything.

This year, ask yourself:

→ Am I pressing in to help my child know Jesus more deeply?

→ Is my top priority perfect scores—or a heart anchored in the gospel?

Because here's the truth:

A kid who knows God's love will go farther than one who can ace a history quiz.

Not because it's "required curriculum"—but because it might just change your whole life.

(And isn't that the best kind of education?)
