ThinkPlay STEM Gears 400pc Set
ThinkPlay Gears is the latest kit from ThinkPlay, the internationally award-winning educational construction system. Designed to explore the basic physics of movement and rotation, effects of friction, creating power, and how simple machines need and use gears, this 400-piece set comes with a whole suite of instructions.

Note: Colors in your set may vary from those depicted in your manual.

There are five gear wheel sizes with different assortments of teeth, and each gear is marked clearly with its number of teeth. There are also two types of color-coded gear wheels, some with a smooth shaft and others with a geared one. With ThinkPlay Gears’ side-connecting pieces, your young builder can make circles, curves, and spirals that remain impossible with traditional sets.

Timberdoodle’s ThinkPlay Gears kit includes ThinkPlay Chains, with 75 chain links and loose-leaf instructions for 14 chain-powered models. With these chains you can build a clock, snowplow, and chainsaw, as well as more technical models, such as intricate chain panels. Or, assemble new constructions of your own design. ThinkPlay's STEM and simple machines potential reaches a new level with ThinkPlay Gears + Chains.

ThinkPlay Set

ThinkPlay Gears with Chains is an awesome STEM kid for my 3, 6 and 9 year old girls! They can make all sorts of cool things together. Honestly, I appreciate the sturdy solid box, because most stem kits become a storage problem once the cardboard box is destroyed. Nit-picky, perhaps, but nice. It IS way too expensive, but STEM kits always are, and it's always annoying (for the record). The benefits of a STEM education will pay off down the line.

Worth every penny

We are incredibly frugal, but our son loved the preschool set so much we knew we had to get these. I was worried that it might not have enough instructions or new pieces to justify the price, but it was TOTALLY worth it. The only thing I didn't like was that most of the instructions came in loose leaf format. We ended up taking some to the copy shop to bind into a book because instructions kept being spread all over the house and getting wrinkled. Also the double page instructions started to tear on the fold lines from being flipped through so much, so I had to laminate some. The lamination for that size is very expensive though so I wish they printed these instructions in a more kid proof/ kid friendly format.

Michelle, We are so glad your family has enjoyed the ThinkPlay set! We love the idea of all the instructions formated together in a more kid-durable approach. The scoop on the posters is that they were initially designed for schools in Europe, made to be hung in a classroom for ready access to students. Thankfully, the supplier we import these sets from agreed to include them in our kits as well so that our customers could use them too, even though not in a typical classroom setting. Hopefully, in the future, they will be able to print these into books as well. :) --Hope

ThinkPlay Set

Can I leave ten stars for this review?! I am very pleased with the numerous pages of building ideas, including various skill levels allowing multiple ages to build. I helped my 6.5 year old build the first project, and he's been able to follow the directions himself since then. My 4 yo is figuring out some of the simpler ones, and even my girls (8 yo and 5.5 yo) have fun with it! The pieces are heavy duty and will last well -- and the chains are sturdy plastic pieces: no worry about a metal piece coming unwound and being sharp, nor that the plastic will break quickly. Very well made and totally worth it!

ThinkPlay Set

These are definitely a favorite for my 4.5 year old. He can do parts by himself and needs help with other parts to them. He loves building from the book and his imagination. Instructions are easy to follow.

The price of this product almost turned me away. But we bought it anyway. I was not disappointed. We really enjoy playing with this. However, I do think this is overpriced.
