About All About Spelling
You know that kids learn in a variety of ways. That is why a multisensory approach, like All About Spelling (AAS), is so successful. But children also differ in their motivational approach to learning. You may have an inquisitive child who really wants to understand the ins and outs of spelling, while his sibling just doesn’t care. If you have a child who thrives on spelling rules and who is most comfortable understanding the reasoning behind each word’s spelling, he will adore AAS, because in each spelling lesson, a single new rule or concept is taught. The award-winning AAS provides complete and comprehensive instruction using the multisensory Orton-Gillingham explicit teaching approach.

Is My Student Ready For All About Spelling Level 1?
If your child has completed All About Reading Level 1 or the equivalent reading instruction, he is likely ready for All About Spelling Level 1. By first completing All About Reading Level 1 or the equivalent, you provide your student with a strong foundation in basic reading skills before beginning their spelling instruction.

All About Spelling is a building-block program, where each level builds on the skills taught in the previous levels. Because of this, most students start All About Spelling at Level 1.

What will my student learn in level 1?
Your student will learn encoding skills, reliable spelling rules, and multisensory strategies for spelling, along with exciting new concepts, including phonograms, consonant teams, segmenting, syllables, consonant blends, initial blends, final blends, and plurals. Phonological awareness and encoding skills are taught throughout Level 1. Below is a sampling in each area:

Encoding:
  • Learn phonograms A-Z, plus TH, SH, CH, CK, NG, NK
  • Spell words with short vowel sounds containing new phonograms, such as bath, dog, cash, wing, and such
  • Spell words ending in FF, LL, and SS, as in cliff, will, and miss
  • Spell words with initial blends, as in frog and swim
  • Spell plural words with suffix s or es, such as cups and lunches
  • Spell compound words, such as cobweb and bathtub

    Phonological Awareness:
  • Learn techniques for syllable counting
  • Identify the first and last sounds in words
  • Segment words with two and three sounds

  • All About Spelling Level 1 Scope and Sequence.

My goal is to use this program as a family unit to build a solid foundation for my Pre-K babe but also to reinforce some spelling concepts missed by using other programs with my 3rd grader.

My 3rd graders spelling was lacking to say the least. This is helping build that basic foundation they were missing. I have even been able to use with my kindergartener.

Spelling for the high school student

I purchased this to use with my high school student when we realized spelling basics had been neglected. Understanding the need for all the foundational knowledge in the first level, we started there. It is certainly below her level, but even so, we learned a few basic spelling rules that were much needed. We have made it through Level 1 in about one month and will be starting Level 2. We don't do all the oral or written work a first grader would need to do ( a spelling list of 3 letter words, for instance) so getting through the book has not taken long.

    Great Fit

We used and loved All About Reading last year (and again this year). Starting All About Spelling this year and it's a perfect complement. Both programs work incredibly well together.

    Perfect Fit!

After completing 3/4 of Spelling-You-See, I was concerned because my first grader (who is a great reader) didn't seem to have the basics of spelling down. She liked SUS, but I didn't see much improvement in her daily writing. After doing some research, we decided to switch to All About Spelling and use it as part of a summer-school plan. My daughter loves All About Reading, so this felt familiar. For us, learning rules is proving to be a far better fit than the copy-work associated with SUS. Level 1 was very easy for her, so she flew through the lessons and built a ton of confidence. I've noted a marked improvement in her spelling overall, outside of school. We are going to do All About Spelling level 2 next year, and we are all really excited about it.

    Love This!!

Simply can not say enough good things about this program. We started using AAR last year and quickly advanced to level 1. We love how fun the games are. There are lots of suggestions and opportunities to reinforce the lessons along the way. We love that it is all in color very appealing to our little one. It takes all the thought out of planning for a reading curriculum. It comes with reading comprehension question suggestion for the teacher and literally tells you how to phrase everything. Love this program and would highly recommend it.
