Timberdoodle's Review
Many years ago, when our children were beginning readers, we used the Pathway Readers to successfully monitor and encourage an ongoing reading program.

Designed to be used in Amish classrooms, these basal readers are solidly wholesome, with none of the fantasy that is commonplace in both Christian and secular readers.

If you are weary of the brashness that is evident in readers with contemporary story lines, you'll find these a refreshing alternative. Here the children are expected to obey their parents, respect their teachers, ask forgiveness when they do wrong, and humbly submit to the discipline of those in authority! Yet they still enjoy life!!

Because the Amish don't use electricity, you won't find stories dealing with the latest in films, computers, or TVs. Instead, the stories are centered around farm life, with horse auctions, harvests, and LARGE families. We have compared these books to several home school basal readers and have found that they are more challenging in the lower grades and infinitely more interesting. With simple typesetting and a few black-and-white sketches, these hardback books are not splashy, but are lovely in their simplicity.

Pathway Reader Sixth Grade

This is our first time using Pathway Readers and I must say I am enjoying the stories as much as the children are. They are interesting and wholesome with a moral lesson. So glad I gave these readers a try!

A Fun Series For Kids

We have been reading Pathway Readers since 1st grade and love them! They are very easy to read and have fun illustrations that go along with the chapters. My daughter has enjoyed the plots and mischief that the characters tend to get into and they have a wholesome message to tell the truth, do what is right, etc. We live in an area with a pretty large Amish community, so at times, we can easily picture some of the stories' events happening as though they are happening right next door! She is currently over halfway through reading Step By Step. We also purchased the 7th Grade Seeking True Values book for when she finishes this one.

Pathway Reader Sixth Grade

This is my son's favorite part of the curriculum. He looks forward to this book every single week!

Pathway Reader Sixth Grade

We have had these readers since first grade. He likes them. He likes the farm stories. Stories that teach kids about a life maybe different from their own.

Pathway Reader Sixth Grade

They are always fun stories with a good point.
