Timberdoodle's Review
United States History
The plain name belies the engaging approach in AGS United States History. Full-color illustrations throughout complement the fascinating text. Potentially unfamiliar words are defined, short biographies are liberally sprinkled throughout, and thought-provoking questions abound.

Excellent, Engaging Writing
Best of all though is the text itself. Controversial issues are set up well and the logic behind each action is explained so that the student is left understanding why, for instance, the atomic bomb was dropped, without being obligated to agree or disagree with that approach. In this way a thoughtful, inquisitive approach to history is encouraged that will serve your student well throughout his lifetime.

Who is United States History for?
Written at a 4th-5th grade level, United States History is not written from a distinctively Christian perspective. I don't see anything included that would be offensive to most conservative Christians, but it is something to be aware of. If you have a student who wants a fast-paced, interesting approach to USA history, we think this is a great fit.

The Components
Each United States History Homeschool Kit revolves around the colorful, hard-cover student textbook that is the backbone of the curriculum. A 144-page Student Workbook is also included with fill-in-the-blank activities, multiple-choice questions, crossword puzzles, and many other types of workbook pages. The final component is a massive Teacher's Edition. It shows all the student pages along with answers, additional activity ideas, questions to discuss, etc.

Please note that access to the Teacher's Resource Library is not included with this Homeschool Bundle. Pearson has done that to keep your costs at a minimum. A comprehensive Teacher's Manual is included so this isn't likely to prove a problem, but we thought you'd want to know that there are extra tests, etc., mentioned which are not included in the kit. Thankfully those components aren't needed in a homeschool environment!

    AGS United States History

This was my personal favorites of the entire kit. And I was able to use the book for both my 4th and 5th grader. We just order extra workbooks and map books for him. The pictures are really on point and help with the visual learning.

    AGS United States History

These books are very well written and easy to understand and read. The history flows and the teachers guide makes it a breeze to help her through her lessons. The only complaint is not having tests.

    Halfway through and....

We really like this curriculum. Pros are it is very detailed and with the workbook, it does s good job of providing enough work to follow up with the reading. I did find that on the Teacher's version they do have small versions of the test or extra worksheets. I was able to take pictures and blow them up so if a chapter was particularly challenging, we had an extra worksheet and the test. Cons are the lack of homeschooler available material. Timber doodle was brilliant with assistance but even they could only give so much. I do hope that these book publishers also tap into the interactive and e book side of things as that is a great resource that few have yet to tap into. I will definitely use this for the next child as well

    Good chunks of history.

My daughter loves that each lesson is only about 2 to 3 pages long. I love that the teacher's edition gives so much extra info to share with her as well as additional resources to look at, like videos that can be shown that go over the lesson. My only negative is that the book doesn't come with the teacher's resource library which means the chapter tests aren't included. However the chapter review is pretty comprehensive and works well for a substitute.

    AGS US History

My son, 7th grader, and I are enjoying history this year. He is excited to be learning about United States History. The lessons are short and to teh point. There are lots of sugestions for extra practice. I would recommend this course. My only negative is that I wish I had known the tests were not part of the bundle and cost extra.
