The Mystery of History series has long been a favorite among Timberdoodle customers. Classic, chronological, and complete, it is full of interesting historical accounts; attention-grabbing, multi-age activities; supplementary book and video lists; and useful timeline suggestions. Now this fabulous program is even easier to use thanks to this eight-CD audio set.
Through the personal narration of the author, Linda Hobar, you and your children can relax and listen to the text of volume I. Without the text, you can relax and listen as Linda speaks directly to you and your family.
Delightfully mixed background music adds excitement and drama to these significant history lessons.

We used this audiobook along w/the book. The audiobook was great to listen on days when either Mom was sick OR during travel.
I must admit I felt that purchasing this was a bit silly since I enjoy reading to my kids but it allowed me opportunties to step away without taking away from my sons learning. The CD collection for MOH Vol. I comes with 10 discs. The author has a very soft voice and is very easy to listen to. However, she was not always able to hold my sons attention as well as I could. So we used only the first few discs. The rest of the time I read the lessons. This could be due to the fact that he is a boy and it's hard for them to sit still and listen to a soft speaker. I think it would be especially great for kids who are not strong readers yet to be able to follow along with the text.
I started using Mystery of History volume I CD's this year to help me make better use of my time.
My kids often need to listen to the the lesson more than once, especially my daughter, who is dyslexic. The audio CD's give me some measure of freedom since I don't always have to read the lesson myself.
I usually read the lesson the first time myself, and then use the audio CD's as a supplement. The kids tend to pick up the things they missed the first time through.
We all enjoy listening to them in the car, but my kids also like to take them to their rooms and listen to them at night as they're getting ready for bed. They never mind "doing history" this way!
The reader's voice is soft and clear, a great storyteller's voice. My children listen to their lesson and we discuss it as they color the accompanying color sheet which you can purchase separately. We love The Mystery of History b/c it combines World History and Bible History along with recent scientific and historical evidence to give students the big picture, all in one piece. Just the way it should be!
We like to supplement our history with the Mystery of History Audio Book. We listen to it in the car to review the lessons we have already done. It helps to see the big picture because we are keeping fresh what we already learned and tie it to what we are learning. I recommend it.
