Create A Story: Volcano Island
Storytelling builds the literacy skills of sequencing, narration, and comprehension. If your child can string together a couple of sentences he is ready to become a storyteller, and Create a Story: Volcano Island will give you all the tools you will need to get started.
The set of 40 cards features beautifully-illustrated and intriguing images - the necessary props to launch your stories. The theme of Create a Story: Volcano Island lends itself to stories of wild animals, exotic plants, and brave (or maybe reckless) children, depending on the mood of the storyteller. Your preschooler will be looking to you to model stories that have a beginning, middle, and end. We like starting each story with "Once Upon a time" because that signals to our children that what follows need not be true.
Instructions for a variety of games are included in every set, plus our Preschool Handbook provides additional hints for introducing this vital skill to your preschooler. The sturdy Create a Story: Volcano Island cards store in a handy sliding tray box. Winner of the Oppenheim Gold Award.

”With these cards, you can create a story by using the graphics on the card to set the scene... I love that the Create a Story Cards are so versatile! I don’t think we will ever tell the same story twice.”Read the Review

If you have a young Preschooler like I do, it might take a few months for your child to get the idea. We started when my daughter was about 2 and a half. She mostly listened while I told stories. Sometimes it seemed like she preferred to throw the cards. Now just 2 months later, she is telling stories all by herself. She loves the characters. We often start by pulling out all the cards with one character on them. This makes it easier than dealing with the entire stack of cards.
I've included a video of my daughter using these cards today. She is 2 years and 9 months.
I bought this based on other people's positive reviews. My 5 & 3 year old want to tell stories, but tend to go down rabbit trails and have never ending sagas. It's a bit exhausting to listen to at times.... Enter these amazing cards. Beautiful, fun pictures that have helped them learn about having a beginning, middle and end. Their story telling skills have increased exponentially! I highly recommend this for helping kids tell stories!
My kids love doing this! I even enjoy getting in on the story telling with them. Such a neat concept!
I love these cards. They have reoccurring characters and objects. It's so easy to find two cards and start a story. My almost 3 yr old can't come up with her own stories yet, but we have fun doing one together.
These are just ok. We haven’t used them much yet. They don’t seem to hold the interest of my boys. But I’m hoping that soon we will be able to use them in an engaging way. I think you just have to really encourage them to use their imaginations. We will try again!
