Robotis PLAY 600 Pets
Now even children with emerging fine motor skills can experience the excitement of building their own robots with Robotis PLAY 600 Pets. Modeled after the smaller, more advanced Dream series, but with larger chunky pieces, the easy entry-level robotics kit Robotis PLAY 600 Pets introduces your children to the fundamentals of simple automation.
Robotis PLAY 600 Pets' step-by-step assembly instructions show your child how to build up to seven moving pet robots. Easy to assemble; no tools are required so imaginative scientists can expand on these ideas while exercising creativity and developing fine motor skills. What a great combination for learning science, technology, engineering, and math concepts. Requires two AA batteries (not included). Recommended for ages 6 years and up, but we feel some 5-year-olds may be ready for this challenge.
Builds 1 model at a time.
Includes directions to build a Puppy, Bluebird, and Cricket in the box.
Directions for a Whale, Goldfish, Polar Bear, and even a Tank are available free online on RoboPlus Design (R+ Design).

My 1st grader loves these. She is able to do much of it on her own by following the images of the instructions. This kind of activity is more my husbands speed but I enjoyed the process and the fun of seeing the robots in action. My husband volunteered to build one with my girls because he wanted in on the fun. There are multiple animals to build and so I rotate A new build once a month.
This kit looked fun until we realized that only seven robots could be made, most of which you had to find directions for online instead of in the booklet accompanying the kit. The robots had VERY limited motions and were more "whirligigs" than actual robots.
When our first grade kit came this was what my seven year old was most excited for. Legos are her favorite toy, so this was kind of just another version of those! She tore through building these animals and loved every second of it. She still plays with this, months after we got it. She likes the challenge of taking it apart and putting it back together again. I would recommend it.
My 6 year old really enjoys the Robotis Toys!
This came in my daughter's first grade kit. This is her favorite thing to do. She loves that she gets to build it and that it actually moves. She wishes we had a bigger kit already. If your child like building should definitely get this for your kid.
