Exploring Creation with Advanced Biology
Completely revised and updated, the second edition of Apologia’s Advanced Biology: The Human Body will prepare your student for college-level science as well as life beyond the classroom. With dramatic new illustrations and photos, clearer explanations, and enhanced readability, this advanced biology course allows your high school student to study independently while mastering the anatomy and physiology of the human body.

This 2-book set is our advanced biology course. Combined with Exploring Creation With Biology, it gives the student the equivalent of a university biology course. In other words, these two courses together cover the entire "advanced placement" (AP) curriculum. In order to take this course, the student MUST have completed a first-year biology course AND a first-year chemistry course. It covers both the anatomy and the physiology of the human body’s 11 organ systems in detail. With features such as the very helpful year-long daily schedule, lab reports for the experiments, optional fill-in-the-blank summaries for extra practice, study guides, and so much more, you will find the Student Notebook (sold separately) to be an excellent addition to your science curriculum this year.

Without a doubt, Apologia has been setting standards for science textbooks for years. If you have ever doubted the thoroughness of a science text, one glance at these large textbooks will allay all fears! If your child thrives on detailed explanations and lots of information, Apologia is a great place to start. The full-color illustrations and written-for-homeschoolers text have immediate appeal. On closer look, the Christian worldview provides a solid foundation. I believe that a scientist who grasps the God of creation will have a tremendous head start as he moves onward into research and development, treating patients, or further study.

Please note that these textbooks are not for every student. They are massive, detailed and require a fair amount of math. Apologia is perfect for the student who loves science and isn't scared by math. He or she may want to pursue a career in the field, proceed to college, or simply satisfy their thirst for knowledge. A student who does not yet excel at math or will be overwhelmed by the textbook format may lose their zeal for science if forced to proceed down this track. Instead, we suggest looking at Friendly Biology for a gentler approach that will feed their interest without overwhelming them.

For those of you who want to know, the reproductive system is covered in great detail at the end of this book. Most students at this level will need the information, but if you are looking for a more discreet approach, we'd suggest considering Precepts of Anatomy and Physiology.
