Bede's History of Me introduces your kindergartner to history, starting with the only history he already knows — his own. Bede is a cheerful little ball of yarn with googly eyes who happens to be a timeline. He walks your child through a year of weekly lessons that build a real sense of the past and present, and of where his own family fits in.
Each lesson is one short, colorful two-page spread with concrete activities — building a personal family timeline, drawing, coloring, cut-and-paste pages, and small crafts like a paper boat or paper airplane. The book is written directly to the child in a kid-friendly font, so an early reader can work through it with you or on his own.
Topics are everyday and relatable: family history, the history of holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, Epiphany, St. Patrick's Day), houses, toys, sports, maritime history, and a little church history along the way. As a Christian curriculum from Veritas Press, history is framed in light of how God has worked across time — present from the start, not tacked on.
One lesson a week, all year long. For some children, this will be the right first step before a fuller history curriculum in first grade.
