Djeco's beautiful art-by-numbers kit, Khan Mosaics, creates two impressively-illustrated pictures any preteen would enjoy. By just following the numbers and adding the correctly colored foam sticker tile to the backgrounds he will assemble two imposing pictures; a grumpy gorilla and a thoughtful tiger.
The vibrant Khan Mosaics is a small, quiet, easy-to-pack activity to tuck into a purse for traveling, be it to the local homeschool meet-up or around the world. Lots of fun with virtually no mess, Khan Mosaics will keep your child engaged and entertained for hours. What a pleasant way to exercise and strengthen hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills, and concentration.

”This is a fun little kit! Is is a bit challenging at times with the little pieces, but a great way to help develop fine motor skills! It counts as art in my book, minus all the messy stuff. That is a win!”Read the Review

”I have zero artistic ability and I’m not all that great at following complicated directions. The booklet shows you exactly what to do. The whole lesson is self-explanatory. Aka, perfect for the instructionally-challenged mom."Read the Review
My daughter and I love making sticky mosaics. It can really keep a child engaged for a long time, which is a big plus. These were high quality and look great in our art center!
It is more challenging that it looks, but once finished, both boys asked for more!
This one is fun but challenging for my impatient 9 year old. He feels like the foam stickers are cumbersome and if is taking a really long time so he is losing interest. I plan to put it away and let him come back to it later. He much prefers the pixel mosaic. I really like this though and I think it is great he is being challenged in this way with his fine motor skills.
We were pleasantly surprised with this mosaic kit. Even though the kit only include two animals (gorilla and tiger), the designs take a decent amount of time to make. There aren't many colors, but within each color, there are different sizes of the triangles so it's deceptively difficult (in a good way). I think the age recommendation of 8-14 is appropriate. Younger kids might be capable of doing it, but probably not have the patience for it.
I got this mosaics set along with another Timberdoodle product, Pixels, to have my son compare the techniques/styles used. He is super interested in this form of art and I like that Timberdoodle had several things to further spark his interest and explore his creative options. This would probably be a good first option to try and then move up to the Pixels. I know this product says 3rd-8th, but I actually think you could use this with a younger crowd and save Pixels for the older kiddos. Just one mom's opinion.
