By fifth grade, science starts asking learners to connect bigger ideas. My Pals Are Here! International Science Grade 5 moves beyond isolated topics and encourages deeper thinking about how systems interact, influence one another, and explain the world around us.
Across 12 units, the course explores biology, chemistry, physics, and earth science through topics like body systems, photosynthesis, ecosystems, heat transfer, chemical changes, and the water cycle.
Built around Singapore’s 5E approach—engage, explore, explain, elaborate, and evaluate—the program encourages investigation, comparison of evidence, application of ideas, and explanation of increasingly complex concepts.
The program uses three components: a full-color textbook, a consumable activity book, and a teacher guide that provides lesson support, pacing suggestions, materials lists, and answer keys.
Lessons combine reading, discussion, written responses, illustrations, activities, and hands-on experiences, placing greater emphasis on explanation and application than on memorization.
As concepts become larger and more interconnected, more time is spent discussing observations, supporting conclusions, and connecting ideas across units.
The structure remains intentionally parent-friendly while gradually increasing independence in understanding, explaining, and applying scientific concepts.
This level shifts science from learning individual concepts toward understanding how those concepts work together.

How to Use My Pals Are Here! Science
- Work through two lettered sections each week. With 51 sections total, this pace keeps the course moving comfortably through a standard school year.
- Use the textbook and activity book together. Read through the lesson, discuss new ideas, and reinforce concepts through writing, observations, illustrations, and activities.
- Keep the Teacher Guide nearby. It provides pacing suggestions, lesson support, materials lists, discussion prompts, and answer keys so you can focus more on teaching and less on preparation.
- Do not rush past the questions and discussion sections. Grade 5 shifts more responsibility toward explanation, reasoning, and connecting ideas across topics.
- Expect lessons to include more reflection and application than earlier grades. Your child will spend more time explaining his observations, supporting his conclusions, and applying concepts to new situations.
- Use review sections when needed. Some topics connect naturally, while others benefit from extra discussion before moving forward.
Singapore's My Pals are Here International Science materials are based on the science curricula presented in the Singapore public schools. This kid-friendly curriculum is based on the inquiry method of study.
Full-color photographs and illustrations in the My Pals are Here International Science textbook will immediately grab your student's attention. But, it is the easy-to-use Teacher's Guide that will make it super-appealing for any homeschool parent.
MPH Science develops higher-order thinking skills through the questions raised to ignite your child's curiosity and build his inquiry skills.
MPH Science covers biology, chemistry, physics, and earth science elements at each level. At the end of each unit is a review, a test, a glossary, and more.
There are just three books for each grade level: a Textbook, a consumable Activity Book, and a Teacher's Guide. Each black-and-white Teacher's Guide includes lesson plans, suggestions for teaching, and answers to all textbook and activity book exercises.
The black-and-white consumable Activity Book provides related exercises and reinforces concepts, many learned through art-based activities. Other hands-on activities are included to develop students' competencies and cater to kinesthetic and visual learners.
MPH Science does require frequent parental involvement, regardless of the grade being taught. Parents will need to oversee experiments, explain concepts, and answer questions. Thankfully, everything you will require is covered in the Teacher's Guides; you do not need a strong science background. Corresponding pages of the textbook and activity book are referenced. Any other resources or materials you may need are cited. They have even suggested how much time is necessary for every step of each lesson.
While there are plenty of hands-on activities, MPH Science has chosen to emphasize reading, written work, and student-teacher interaction over many science experiments. That is welcome news for parents who dread the work and the mess of science experiments.
MPH Science is a solid, complete, enjoyable program for elementary grades. The series offers a stress-free introduction to science facts and principles, foundational for deeper study. The My Pals Are Here series is a comprehensive scientific study for grades 1-6.

I’m excited to have finally found a science program that I like. We have tried many and it was either too complicated or too boring etc but this one is a perfect mix of teaching and doing. It’s also very simply laid out and easy to understand.
