we found the Cd to work just fine- We didn't have any problems with it, and i really like that I could print what we needed and leave what we didn't. instead of having a partially used workbook at the end of the year (or series of workbooks with several children!) Of course there was printing costs but with more than one child, it pays for itself.
I LOVE the Mystery of History program, but I am very disappointed in the quality of this CD. I purchased the CD to save money over the book version and for the convenience of printing worksheets, but the paper label is starting to peel off after only several uses and it is cumbersome to use with a non-Adobe pdf reader. The pdf files include nuisance blank pages between every map. I'd recommend the program highly, but I wish I'd bought the book instead!
Note From Timberdoodle:
Thanks for the helpful feedback, we've passed it on to the manufacturer in hopes that the next edition will be even better!
Note From the Publisher:
I just wanted to mention that we have stopped using the paper labels for that product. Also, all of our digital products are designed specifically for Adobe Reader - it's free, consistent, and available for PC and Mac. We strongly discourage people from using non-adobe PDF readers as they often do not work at all, and if they do they do not allow the user to enjoy many of the features we build into the files (such as "print this page" buttons, bookmarks, and links). The blank pages between map pages I think were taken out in the most recent version, but I'd have to check on that to be sure.
You can use it as a springboard for older students, as is. I've used it for help with writing and studying skills--picking out important facts, writing a summary as well as imprinting an overall history timeline with my kids. It works with all types of learners as well with their variety of tasks to complete
