Photography 4 Teens
Despite its name, Photography 4 Teens is an excellent fit for aspiring photographers ages 10 and up. Whether your child simply enjoys taking pictures or is considering photography as a creative career, this self-paced online course builds real skills through engaging video lessons and hands-on assignments.
No expensive equipment is required. Your child can complete the course using a smartphone, while optional lessons help DSLR users learn more advanced camera settings when they're ready.
Throughout 12 interactive modules, your child learns the fundamentals of photography, including lighting, exposure, composition, framing, and visual storytelling. He'll practice photographing portraits, landscapes, nature, action, and other subjects while developing practical skills such as editing images, working with people, and even exploring how photographers earn income from their work. Along the way, professional photographers share techniques and critique real student submissions, helping your child learn to see and think like a photographer.
The course includes approximately 60 hours of instruction, making it suitable for one semester of high school credit for an older student. A downloadable 50-page full-color workbook, grading rubric, and transcript description make documentation straightforward for homeschool families.

How to Use Photography 4 Teens
- Choose a pace that fits your homeschool schedule. For a full-year elective, complete one lesson, assignment, and workshop each week. You'll finish one module about every three weeks and complete the course comfortably over the school year. If you'd rather move more quickly, complete one module each week and finish the course in about 12 weeks, leaving plenty of time to keep practicing those new skills.
- Each module follows the same simple rhythm: watch the video lesson taught by professional photographers, complete the hands-on photography assignment, then watch the workshop video to see real student photos reviewed. Seeing what works—and why—is just as valuable as completing the assignments yourself.
- No special equipment is required. Your child can complete the entire course with a smartphone. If he has access to a DSLR camera, the optional bonus lessons offer further instruction in camera settings and techniques.
- Encourage your child to save his favorite photographs in a digital portfolio throughout the course. By the end, he'll have a collection that showcases both his creativity and his growing technical skills.
- Your role is simply to encourage consistency and enjoy watching his progress. Photography 4 Teens provides approximately 60 hours of instruction, enough for one semester of high school credit for an older student, and includes a downloadable 50-page workbook, grading rubric, and transcript description to simplify homeschool recordkeeping.

If you have not been able to get back in to your course or your login, you can go to the Film School 4 Teens website (www.fs4t.com) and look for the "RESUME COURSE" on the front home page in the upper right hand corner. You will then use your school or personal email to get back into your login and to your dashboard where you should see your courses.
Yes, they are! We have four semester-long courses and one year-long course. Our semester courses are equivalent to 60 hours of course work, and the year-long course is 120 hours. The credit you receive takes into account the course video content, instruction time, and the time the student spends completing assignments and final projects. According to the state you live in, you can determine what your credit value will be.
Yes, it does come with one free workbook per course ordered. We don’t currently carry the workbooks separately. If you would like to order an extra workbook for a sibling, please contact the publisher by emailing admin@fs4t.com.
Absolutely! Working with your friends can be the best way to do this course. Co-ops and classrooms are having a blast doing these courses together. Split up what is done individually and what is done together to your liking. Each participating family must purchase their course and login. The course purchased will come with one workbook, and each family can order as many additional workbooks as needed.
Students will receive 18 months to complete the course. If they have not completed their course, they are welcome to ask for an extension of 18 more months...no problem.
Yes! We like to say our courses are "family-style." Families can absolutely do these courses together, and you will only need to purchase (from the publisher) or print out a second workbook for each additional child. Each student needs a copy of the workbook to fill in the blanks as they watch the video lessons and complete their assignments. When students have completed the course, they will have a beautiful portfolio in their workbook.
The FS4T courses were created carefully to be accommodating to any level or capability. Because of this, the courses can be done with anything from a smartphone to an expensive camera. If you are able and desire to purchase higher-end equipment for your creating, the publisher's recommendations are listed here.
All Film School 4 Teens courses are independent, self-paced, and graded by the parent/teacher. They are designed in a way that the students work on their own at their own pace.
The student workshops were developed to allow students to watch other homeschool students go over their same assignments (after they do their own assignments). Like a masters class, they essentially grade their own work.
