What Your Kindergartner Needs to Know
Our price: $22.75
I (Joy) have mixed feelings about What Your Kindergartner Needs to Know. Our family never got into fairy tales and magic, and a large portion of the read-aloud stories at the beginning of What Your Kindergartner Needs to Know have these topics in common. Yet I love the author's emphasis on reading aloud to your children and the wide variety of art, math, music, and science activities to do with your kindergartner.
Includes Twenty Nuggets of History
How many brain-dead moms (or even babysitters like me!) would love to be able to pick up a book and simply flip through it for ideas? The tipping point for us was the twenty nuggets of history located in the middle of this book. Short stories about famous figures or simple synopses of USA history will help your child continue to develop the basics of a historical perspective and prepare him for jumping into a formal history program next year.
A Very Helpful Resource
In a nutshell, even if you skip or modify some of the read-aloud stories, as our family would have, you will find What Your Kindergartner Needs to Know to be a very helpful resource for everything from teaching handwriting to fun math projects you can do together.

We didn't get much use out of it. The material is fine and it does offer a large variety of topics but my son wasn't really interested in it. It did open the door for curiosity on new topics so that is a plus.
Neither child is interested in this book. Some of the rhymes and stories were too advanced in my opinion...They dont care to hear them.
May have used this 5 times, looking back I would have just skipped getting this and gotten various library books to read each week.
I was skeptical about What Your Kindergartener Needs to Know at first. It came with Timberdoodle's Kindergarten Kit and I thought, why would we need a book that can be used as a curriculum on its own? I found out that this book rounds off all other curriculum and topics. It is comprehensive and gives ideas of supplemental materials. I appreciated the Science Section and found some of the experiments in there to be great (specifically plants and magnets). My first purchase for First Grade was the What Your First Grader Needs to Know. Looking forward to using these books for a long time. I highly recommend What Your Kindergartener Needs to Know to anyone.
Great Resource to expand my little ones exposure to different types of readings and poetry, not my most reached for resource, but a great addition we do enjoy sitting and reading from
