Can I Use My Scholarship, ESA, or Charter Funds for Homeschool Curriculum? (Yes — Here's How)

Yes. If your family has a state scholarship, an education savings account (ESA), or charter school funds, you can spend them on Timberdoodle curriculum—and most families who bring home a full year from us aren't paying out of pocket at all.

That includes Step Up For Students in Florida, West Virginia's Hope Scholarship, Texas Education Freedom Accounts, Utah Fits All, Georgia's Promise Scholarship, Louisiana's GATOR program, the ClassWallet states, and charter and virtual schools across the country. Here's how each one works, when your funds arrive, and how to order with yours.

How do I use Step Up For Students at Timberdoodle?

Florida's Step Up For Students is the largest scholarship program we serve. If your family is in the Personalized Education Program (PEP) or has a Family Empowerment Scholarship for Unique Abilities (FES-UA), your education funds can go toward Timberdoodle curriculum kits and individual items.

Quarterly funds land August 1, with a September 1 deposit for late enrollees, then November 1, February 1, and April 1. Ordering soon after your deposit means your curriculum arrives in time for your planned start date.

How does the Hope Scholarship work with Timberdoodle?

West Virginia families use Hope Scholarship funds for Timberdoodle kits and individual curriculum all year long, and the path is simpler than most: you shop timberdoodle.com like any other customer, then check out using your Theo Pay browser extension. There's no separate portal to learn and no vendor list to search—you build your cart here, the way you'd expect to.

Hope deposits arrive quarterly—August 15, October 15, January 15, and April 15—so you can order a full kit up front or spread purchases across the year.

What about Texas, Utah, Georgia, and Louisiana?

Four programs run their ordering through the Odyssey marketplace, and Timberdoodle items are available in it:

• Texas Education Freedom Accounts (TEFA) launched in July 2026—Texas homeschoolers have education funds for the first time, and more than a thousand Timberdoodle items are already available through the marketplace.
• Utah Fits All gives homeschooling families a yearly education allowance, ordered through Odyssey. Everything we list for Utah Fits All comes from our Nonreligious editions—a clean fit for the program's rules.
• Georgia Promise Scholarship families order through Odyssey too, in both editions—Georgia orders reach us every week.
• LA GATOR is Louisiana's education savings program, also on Odyssey.

In each case: sign in to your program's Odyssey marketplace, search for Timberdoodle or the specific item you want, and place the order there. Your program pays Timberdoodle directly—nothing comes out of your pocket.

Which states can order with ClassWallet?

Several programs pay through ClassWallet, and those families have the easiest path of all: shop timberdoodle.com normally and pay with ClassWallet Direct Pay at checkout. We currently serve families in Alabama (the CHOOSE Act), Arizona, Arkansas, Indiana, Missouri, New Hampshire, North Carolina, and South Carolina (the Education Scholarship Trust Fund).

Can charter school families use their funds here?

Yes, and this one works everywhere. Charter, virtual, and public school programs in every state can send us a purchase order—we ship to schools nationwide, not just the states named above. Charter programs in many states share instructional funds with enrolled families, and Timberdoodle has worked with charter purchase orders for years.

Most charters can't fund religious materials, which is exactly why every kit comes in two editions: Classic includes some Christian materials, and Nonreligious excludes those, making it charter-school friendly.

Your charter's process usually runs through an approved-vendor list and a purchase order. If Timberdoodle isn't on your charter's list yet, ask them to add us—it usually takes one request. More on how these programs work: How Do Charter Schools Work?

What can I actually buy with ESA or scholarship funds?

Curriculum and educational materials—which is everything we sell. Families most often put funds toward:

• A complete curriculum kit—one order covers every subject for the year, from phonics to STEM, with the Timberdoodle Scheduler and a printed handbook included. Explore the kits.
• A customized kit—swap any item that isn't the right fit before you order.
• Individual items—fill gaps in what you already own: a math level, a science bundle, thinking skills, art.

One note on editions: most funding programs require non-religious materials. That's what the Nonreligious edition is—built without faith-based materials, a nonreligious choice for families searching for a secular curriculum. Families buying with personal funds pick whichever edition fits their home.

When should I order?

The smart pattern we see every year: know your deposit date, and order within the first week or two after funds land. August orders arrive in time for a Labor Day start, and you get the calmest weeks of our warehouse's year.

What if my program isn't listed?

Ask us—the list of programs we work with keeps growing. Some programs pay through platforms like ClassWallet, some reimburse receipts, and some send purchase orders. We've been doing this since 1985, and our team handles program and school orders every day.

Common questions

Is Timberdoodle an approved vendor for my program?

We're available in the marketplaces named above, and charter programs add us by request. Vendor lists change, so check your program's portal—and if you don't see us, email us and we'll pursue it.

Will I be charged anything myself?

When your program orders directly (marketplace or purchase order), the program is billed—you aren't. If you ever see a balance-due line on a program order, that's the amount your program pays, not you.

Can I use funds for either edition?

Both editions are real curriculum, and your program's rules decide. Most programs fund the Nonreligious edition; Classic is there for families whose program allows it or who are buying with their own funds.

My award won't cover a whole kit—what then?

Kits come in three levels (Basic, Complete, and Elite), and every kit can be customized, so there's a version that fits your award. Individual items work too.

Do you take Step Up orders directly?
