180 Days of Phonics for Prekindergarten
Teaching a four-year-old to read doesn't have to be complicated. 180 Days of Phonics for Prekindergarten breaks early reading into one short page a day: 180 small, manageable steps that build letter recognition, sound identification, and basic word formation, each page sized for a prekindergartner's attention span.
The week follows a steady rhythm. Day 1 introduces a sound or phonics concept. Days 2 and 3 help your child hear that sound at the beginning, middle, or end of words. Days 4 and 5 put it to work—blending sounds to read a word, then breaking them apart to write one. Enough repetition to help it stick, with something new each day.
"Try This!" boxes appear throughout with quick, hands-on or movement-based activities to reinforce the day's lesson away from the page. Use them when you have the energy, skip them when you don't—the workbook still works.
This is a no-prep phonics workbook. Open it, sit down together, and begin. Pair it with the alphabet manipulatives in your Timberdoodle kit for added hands-on reinforcement.
By the end of the year, your child has worked through 180 days of phonics practice, building the kind of steady, low-pressure foundation that helps kindergarten reading feel like a natural next step.

How to Use 180 Days of Phonics for Prekindergarten
- Start each week with the overview page. This introduces the week's phonics focus and gives you a quick preview of what's ahead.
- Day 1: Meet the sound of the week. Short, simple activities help your child recognize the new letter sound.
- Days 2–3: Practice listening for the sound at the beginning, middle, or end of words.
- Day 4: Blend the sounds together to read a word. This helps your child see how individual letter sounds can become words.
- Day 5: Take it apart. Breaking sounds into pieces helps your child read and write simple words.
- Sprinkle in the "Try This!" activities. These hands-on, movement-based extras work well for wiggly learners and add a break from the page.
- One page a day, five days a week. Over a school year, that's the whole book—no marathon sessions required.
This structure builds phonemic awareness—your child's ability to hear and work with sounds—step by step, with enough repetition to make it stick.

This has nice big letters, easy to follow lines. The main pages are not overly busy but the additional practice pages really overwhelm my kiddo who is not the biggest fan of penmanship practice. It's a good practice tool though and we'll keep working on warming up to it.

180 days of Phonics has been so helpful for my son! I had tried teaching him phonics/beginning sounds before but it never really seemed to click until we started this workbook. Now he’s really grasping the concept of phonics. I’m very excited to finish this workbook with him and start the next part of our journey on learning how to read! (For age reference: my son was 4.5 when we started the workbook.)
