If I purchased a Deluxe Set for one level, what do I need to purchase for later levels?

Is the Letter Tiles app included, or how do I get it?

Accepted Answer

The Letter Tiles app is not included, but you can purchase it for your compatible iPad, Android tablet, or Amazon Fire in your device's store. Don't forget that this app is not required if you purchase the Deluxe Set; it is a digital alternative to the physical Letter Tiles that are included!

Question 3

I have two children using All About Spelling. Do they each need their own Letter Tiles, or can they share?

Accepted Answer

Both students can share! If you prefer to have both children complete all tile activities simultaneously, you may wish to purchase an additional set. However, this is not required.

Question 4

Can I use the black-and-white First Edition Level 4 Teacher’s Manual with the Color Edition Activity Book?

Accepted Answer

No. The lessons in the Color Edition were changed slightly and the Color Edition activity book will not line up with the First Edition Teacher’s Manual.

Question 5

I already used the black-and-white edition of Level 1, Level 2, and/or Level 3. Can I switch to the Color Edition for Level 4?

Accepted Answer

Yes! The two editions follow the same scope and sequence, so you can move between the color edition and black-and-white version without any trouble. For example, you can go from black-and-white Level 3 to color Level 4 and back to black-and-white Level 5.

What happened to your Interactive Kits?

We’ve made purchasing even easier! Due to customer feedback, we have phased out our Interactive Kits. Instead, the  Letter Tiles  now include all tiles needed for all levels of All About Reading and All About Spelling and are purchased separately as a one-time purchase. The divider cards are also now included with the review boxes.

I purchased the Letter Tiles kit prior to April 2023. Do I need to purchase the revised Letter Tiles kit?

The older kit did not include specialty tiles (Syllable Tags, prefixes, and suffixes). Instead, these were included in the Level 2-7 Student Packets as needed. The Level 2-7 Student Packets will continue to include specialty tiles to ensure customers still receive all the tiles needed for the program. However, there have been multiple improvements to our new Letter Tiles kit that might benefit you, such as: Every tile needed for all levels of All About Reading and All About Spelling including prefixes, suffixes, Greek word parts, and Latin word parts Tokens to use with All About Spelling Level 1 Updated Syllable Tags that will be used for both programs 2 zip storage bags for easy organization

Can I use the components from the First Edition with components from the Color Edition? For example, can I use the Color Edition activity book with my First Edition teacher's manual, or reuse my First Edition flashcards with the Color Edition teacher's manual?

No. The First Edition materials are not compatible with the Color Edition materials. Since so much new content was added to the Color Edition, it would be very difficult to use part of the newer version in conjunction with the First Edition.

Does the Color Edition of Level 4 contain any new lesson content?

While the scope and sequence of Level 4 is the same, 11 new lessons have been added to expand on topics and make them easier for kids to learn. The Color Edition Teacher’s Manual has more than doubled in size and provides much more support for the teacher and student. It now includes an expanded Introduction section, Before You Begin sections for each lesson, Advanced Application sections for older students, and extensive appendices for additional spelling reference for the teacher (including a list of spelling rules taught in Levels 1-4). The Color Edition also comes with a 280-page full color student activity book, including spelling rules posters, greatly expanded word banks, and activity sheets for each lesson.

How many lessons are in Level 4?

Level 4 has 38 lessons. Please know that the lessons in All About Spelling are not meant to be completed in one day. In fact, some lessons may take a week or more to finish. A number of variables contribute to how quickly a lesson can be completed, including your student's age, attention span, and prior experience, and the difficulty of the concept being taught.

What if I have more than one student?

If you are teaching more than one student at a time, you will need to order one additional Student Packet and one additional Spelling Review Box for each additional student. The Level 4 Materials contain enough for teaching one student.

How to Use All About Spelling Level 4

Plan on about 15–20 minutes per lesson. Short, consistent lessons give your child time to absorb new concepts while keeping spelling manageable and productive.
  Work through the lessons in order. Level 4 builds directly on the skills taught in previous levels, introducing advanced phonograms, prefixes, multisyllable words, abbreviations, and more sophisticated spelling patterns one step at a time.
  Begin each lesson with review. Revisiting previously learned phonograms, rules, and word cards helps strengthen retention and keeps important concepts fresh.
  Keep the letter tiles nearby. Building and manipulating words remains an important part of instruction. The tiles help your child analyze larger words, recognize patterns, and apply spelling rules with greater confidence.
  Complete the dictation exercises. Dictation provides an opportunity to apply new concepts independently while strengthening spelling accuracy, listening skills, and attention to detail.
  Use the activities and reinforcement pages. The Activity Book provides additional practice designed to help your child master new concepts while reviewing previously learned material.
  Follow your child's pace. Some concepts will come quickly, while others may require additional review. Feel free to repeat activities or spend extra time practicing before moving forward.
  Watch for growing confidence with unfamiliar words. By Level 4, many children begin to break larger words into manageable parts, look for familiar patterns, and apply spelling principles independently. That's often a sign that spelling is becoming less about memorization and more about understanding how words are constructed.
