Clay by Number—Cat with Collar is a step-by-step clay art kit for kids that uses a simple number-matching system to create a finished cat design.
The board is divided into clearly marked sections, each labeled with a number that matches a clay color. Your child presses, rolls, and places soft, air-dry clay into each space, building the cat one section at a time. The design is bold and easy to follow, so progress is visible from the first few pieces.
The clay is lightweight and easy to shape, allowing adjustments along the way without frustration. Because each step is already mapped out, your child can focus on placing and shaping instead of deciding what to do next. It works well for children who enjoy hands-on art projects but benefit from clear guidance instead of open-ended instructions.
As the picture fills in, fine-motor skills develop through repeated pinching, rolling, and pressing. Following the numbered layout also strengthens sequencing and attention to detail.
Yet, there is still room for small creative choices—smoothing edges, refining shapes, or adding light texture where it fits.
Once complete, the clay air-dries into a slightly raised, colorful cat artwork that holds its shape and displays well on a shelf or desk.
Unbox and Set It Out – Lay out the cat board, clay, and tool. The numbered design shows exactly where each color goes, so there’s no guesswork.
Pick One Color – Choose a single numbered section to work on. Starting small keeps the project manageable and easy to return to.
Press and Shape – Match the numbers and press the clay into place. Rolling, pinching, and smoothing help the cat begin to take shape.
Pause and Walk Away – One section finished is plenty for a session.
Repeat and Build – Come back to a new color next time. Section by section, the full cat design comes together.
Set It Aside to Dry – Once all sections are complete, let the clay air-dry into a slightly raised finished piece.
This steady, one-section-at-a-time approach keeps the project moving without overwhelm—easy to start, easy to pause, and satisfying to finish.
