Discover! Science 1
Science comes alive when children can connect it to the world they see every day. Discover! Science 1 introduces first graders to foundational science concepts through colorful lessons, thoughtful questions, and hands-on activities designed specifically for homeschool families.
Using two consumable student worktexts, your child will explore animals, weather, seasons, and forms of energy such as light, heat, and sound throughout a full year of science study. Each lesson begins with a relatable scenario that introduces the topic before moving into age-appropriate instruction, discussion questions, and opportunities to draw, write, observe, and respond.
The accompanying Instructor Guide provides lesson support, answer keys, pacing suggestions, and additional activity ideas. It also offers options for different learning styles, making it easier to adapt lessons to your child's strengths and interests.
Assessment is woven naturally into the course. At regular intervals, your child can demonstrate understanding through either hands-on projects or traditional quizzes, allowing you to choose the approach that works best for your family.
Designed specifically for home use, Discover! Science 1 combines open-and-go convenience with meaningful science instruction. As your child learns about the world around him, he'll also practice observing, questioning, investigating, and explaining—skills that form the foundation of scientific thinking.

🚨 WARNING: Extremely Dangerous Experiment in Lesson 56! 🚨
Evelyn J.
I was horrified to find that Discover Science includes a highly dangerous and potentially explosive experiment in Lesson 56 (Extension Activity: "Make a Glow Stick"). It instructs children to mix chlorinating tablets and isopropyl alcohol, which creates toxic chlorine gas and an explosive reaction! Following the vague instructions, I researched further and was shocked to learn how unsafe this is. When I attempted it using a thick glass bottle (without sealing it), the reaction was extremely violent, heating the bottle to an untouchable temperature. If I had followed the instructions exactly with a sealed plastic bottle, it could have exploded in my 7-year-old's hands! This experiment should NEVER have been included in a children's curriculum. I urge the publisher to remove it immediately, and I strongly warn other parents and educators DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS EXPERIMENT! Safety should always come first in science education.

Simple & Enjoyable
Kati C.
We appreciate the topics included within this science curriculum. With a previous curriculum, some of the concepts presented in first grade did not seem age appropriate. However, this bundle has been nice in reviewing age-appropriate concepts with a variety of suggested science projects along the way.

NOT FOR US!
Mary E.
This is no more than a read aloud to my younger kids. There are experiments, but they are incredibly simple do not hold our kids interest. Additionally, they are all experiments we have done in previous years. None of the materials needed for experiments in provided so it also requires a bit of upfront work from you - which is challenging when teaching 3 kids at multiple levels. Also not at all budget friendly. Didn't even make it past the second week of school with this one. Ugh!
