Discover! Science 3
Why do some animals thrive in one environment but struggle in another? How do plants, weather, energy, and living things interact? Discover! Science 3 helps third graders investigate these questions through engaging lessons, hands-on activities, and meaningful real-world connections.
This full-year homeschool curriculum explores animal behaviors, adaptations, ecosystems, plants, matter, sound, energy, motion, weather, and the human digestive system. Student worktexts are divided into two volumes, with life science topics in Book A and physical and Earth science topics in Book B.
Throughout the course, your child will read, observe, discuss, experiment, and apply new concepts through activities designed to support a variety of learning styles. Lessons encourage students to think critically, make connections, and develop a deeper understanding of the world around them.
The accompanying Instructor Guide provides lesson support, answer keys, assessments, pacing suggestions, and additional teaching ideas. Together, the worktexts and guide create an open-and-go program that is easy to implement while still providing meaningful science instruction.
Designed specifically for homeschool families, Discover! Science 3 combines clear explanations, hands-on learning, and thoughtful review to help your child build scientific knowledge while strengthening observation, investigation, and problem-solving skills.

How to Use Discover! Science
- Discover! Science is designed as a full-year curriculum. We suggest completing two lessons each week, or one lesson and one review, to comfortably finish the course during a typical academic year.
- Each lesson begins with a short introduction that connects the science concept to everyday life. Read through the lesson together, then discuss the questions and complete any written or hands-on activities. Encourage your child to make observations, ask questions, and explain what he is learning in his own words.
- Use the Instructor Guide as your primary teaching resource. It provides lesson support, answer keys, pacing suggestions, and additional activity ideas to reinforce concepts and accommodate different learning styles.
- At regular intervals, your child will have opportunities to demonstrate understanding through projects or quizzes. Choose the assessment option that best fits your child's learning style and your homeschool goals.
- Don't feel pressured to rush through the material. Science is often best learned through discussion, observation, and exploration. If a topic sparks extra interest, take time to investigate it further before moving on.
By the end of the course, your child will have developed a stronger understanding of scientific concepts while practicing the skills scientists use every day: observing, questioning, investigating, and communicating discoveries.

Not our favorite
Rachelle
I wish this curriculum was more interesting for our kid. It is a lot of prep work and the teacher's manual is overwhelming.

We love it!

My son loves this, and everything is broken down for him to easily understand.

Open and go science
Rebecca G.
Not a lot of messy experiments, but plenty of practice in reading and writing and great, age-appropriate topics covered. No prep needed, which is nice (and rare) for a science curriculum.
