Discover! Science 6
What are living things made of? How are traits passed from one generation to the next? And how do the systems of the body work together to keep us alive and healthy? Discover! Science 6 helps students investigate these questions through a comprehensive study of life science.
This full-year homeschool curriculum explores cells, genetics, bacteria, viruses, protists, fungi, plants, animal anatomy, reproduction, and major body systems, including the skeletal and muscular systems. Through colorful student worktexts, your child will examine the structures, processes, and relationships that define living organisms.
Lessons combine engaging readings, hands-on activities, observations, and review exercises to help students build understanding while making meaningful connections between concepts. As your child progresses through the course, he'll strengthen critical-thinking skills while learning to observe, analyze, compare, and explain scientific ideas.
The accompanying Instructor Guide provides lesson support, answer keys, assessments, pacing suggestions, and additional teaching ideas. Together, the worktexts and guide create an open-and-go program that is easy to implement while still providing meaningful science instruction.
Designed specifically for homeschool families, Discover! Science 6 combines clear explanations, thoughtful activities, and flexible support to help your child develop a strong foundation in life science while building the skills needed for future scientific study.

How to Use Discover! Science
- Discover! Science is designed as a full-year curriculum. We suggest completing two lessons each week, or one lesson and one review, to comfortably finish the course during a typical academic year.
- Each lesson begins with a short introduction that connects the science concept to everyday life. Read through the lesson together, then discuss the questions and complete any written or hands-on activities. Encourage your child to make observations, ask questions, and explain what he is learning in his own words.
- Use the Instructor Guide as your primary teaching resource. It provides lesson support, answer keys, pacing suggestions, and additional activity ideas to reinforce concepts and accommodate different learning styles.
- At regular intervals, your child will have opportunities to demonstrate understanding through projects or quizzes. Choose the assessment option that best fits your child's learning style and your homeschool goals.
- Don't feel pressured to rush through the material. Science is often best learned through discussion, observation, and exploration. If a topic sparks extra interest, take time to investigate it further before moving on.
By the end of the course, your child will have developed a stronger understanding of scientific concepts while practicing the skills scientists use every day: observing, questioning, investigating, and communicating discoveries.

“Honest confession, when I ordered my kit...I skipped it! Then...I got the chance to review it. You can watch the video and see how that went."
Watch the Review“We both highly recommend Discover! Science Grade 6, I feel like even if you have no experience with teaching science this curriculum will work for your family.”

Great program but requires a lot of prep & supplies
Frances J.
We're really enjoying this program and pair it with lessons on the PBS website. Something I didn't realize was the amount of supplies necessary for this course. Most of the supplies are things you probably have laying around the house but it does call for a microscope, slides, etc. (I think you can print a list of weekly supplies needed - it would be worth looking at that prior to ordering to make sure you've got everything needed.) The workbook is very engaging and worded at an age-appropriate level. Using this curriculum will help solidify knowledge that my son was learning in 6th grade but had trouble retaining.
