How do maps help us understand the world? Why do communities need different kinds of workers? And how do people use the resources around them to meet their needs? Discover! Social Studies 2 helps second graders explore these questions through engaging lessons, meaningful activities, and real-world connections.
This full-year homeschool curriculum introduces geography, maps, communities, natural resources, jobs, and global environments. Through colorful student worktexts, your child will explore how people live, work, and interact with the world around them while building vocabulary, reading comprehension, and writing skills.
Lessons encourage students to observe, compare, discuss, and think critically about the relationships between people, places, and resources. As your child works through the course, he'll gain a broader understanding of communities both near and far while strengthening essential academic skills.
The accompanying Instructor Guide provides lesson support, answer keys, teaching suggestions, and assessments. Together, the worktexts and guide create an open-and-go program that is easy to implement while still providing meaningful social studies instruction.
Designed specifically for homeschool families, Discover! Social Studies 2 combines clear instruction, engaging activities, and thoughtful review to help your child build a strong foundation in geography, economics, community awareness, and global understanding.

I would return this book if I could. Two lessons compare and contrast China with the US. Several other pages in the book mention China as well. I am not sure how a communist country who is conducting genocide against the Uyghurs people compares to the US! Two other lessons explain the importance of immigrants. Probably bad timing with the situation on the border. The book is copyright 2021 so definitely not accidental. Two more lessons talk about community conflicts. My child is seven. She does not need to know about community conflicts at this time in her life. She is a child. If you took your child out of public school because you were concerned with what they are being taught in school don't waste your money on this book!
