Timberdoodle's Review
College-prep Biology
Exploring Creation with Biology 2-book Set, 3rd Edition is designed to be the student’s first high school science course and is a college-prep biology course that provides a detailed introduction to the methods and concepts of general biology.

Heavy Emphasis on Vocabulary
Heavily emphasizing the vocabulary of biology, it provides the student with a strong background in the scientific method, the five-kingdom classification scheme, microscopy, biochemistry, cellular biology, molecular and Mendelian genetics, evolution, dissection, and ecosystems. It also provides a complete survey of the five kingdoms in Creation. Students who take and understand this course will be very well prepared for a tough university biology course. See our optional microscope kit here, and our optional dissection kit here.

Apologia: Setting the Standard
Without a doubt, Apologia has been setting standards for science textbooks for years. If you have ever doubted the thoroughness of a science text, one glance at these large textbooks will allay all fears! If your child thrives on detailed explanations and lots of information, Apologia is a great place to start.

Written For Christian Homeschoolers
The full color illustrations and written-for-homeschoolers text have immediate appeal. On closer look, the Christian worldview provides a solid foundation. I believe that a scientist who grasps the God of creation will have a tremendous head start as he moves onward into research and development, treating patients, or further study.

A Word Of Warning
These books are not for every student. They are massive, detailed, and require a fair amount of math. A student who does not yet excel at math or will be overwhelmed by the textbook format may lose their zeal for science if forced to proceed down this track. Instead, we suggest looking at Friendly Biology for a gentler approach that will feed their interest without overwhelming them.

Apologia Is Perfect For…
…the student who loves science and isn't scared by math. He or she may want to pursue a career in the field, proceed to college, or simply satisfy their thirst for knowledge. Many homeschool families have found these to be a cornerstone of their student's higher education and we are sure you'll find them a worthy investment.

    great CLEP test prep

After doing Apologia's Physical Science, we switched to Switched on Schoolhouse following the birth of our 4th child. After the first year of SOS, it was clear we needed to switch back to Apologia. Our oldest daughter tested out of 2 semesters of college biology after completing this book. Our 2nd daughter took college biology for dual credit at our local community college, and said this text prepared her well. Our son finished it, understood it well, and liked it. We will stay with Apologia!

    Top Notch!

I appreciated being able to have my son study a Biology text with such a strong Biblical foundation. The author clearly states opposing secular views and gives solid reasons for refuting them. It is important to for our kids to know both sides which encourages them to be thinkers. It is an accedemically challenging course in my opinion.

    Explorers Beware!

I have used Apologia science with all four of my kids. The youngest is now devouring the Biology text. For those of us with science nerds, beware! This book is addictive. My kids have had a hard time putting it down and making it last all year. The author starts small, read microscopic, and works up to larger animals. Whereas you can do the whole course without breaking out a microscope or a dissection kit, why would you want to? The 'scope gives the student a chance to learn to use an advanced piece of equipment properly. Dissection, while admittedly gross, gives the kids a chacne for hands on exploration. But you can substitute virtual dissection and web-based videos of microscopic animals. These books are well worth the investment.
