Horizons Kindergarten Phonics & Reading teaches your child to read in small, daily steps across a full kindergarten year. By the end of the program, your child is sounding out words and working through sight words. It's a faith-based, parent-led phonics curriculum built for homeschoolers teaching beginning reading from the ground up.
The 160 lessons cover consonant sounds, blends, syllables, digraphs, diphthongs, and non-phonetic sight words. The four teacher's guides give you daily plans, teaching tips, answer keys, and reproducible pages, so prep stays minimal. A wipe-off tablet handles extra phonics practice without printing, and the alphabet floor puzzle gives kids who learn best on the move a way to practice letters off the chair.
The workbook pages are colorful and full of activity. For many kindergartners, that energy on the page is exactly what keeps them engaged. For children who are easily overwhelmed by visual stimulation, it's worth taking a look at sample pages before committing.

This has been an amazing program in advancing our little ones reading skills and phonics. She enjoys all the stories as they actually make sense and are short enough to hold her attention. The workbooks are colorful and fun for her as well. It has also been good practice for her with understanding her letter sounds. I will say some lessons especially towards the end get pretty long so we broke those up over 2 days but it is an amazing program.

Overall I am pleased with this program. The worksheets are bright and colorful which my kiddos enjoy. It is strong in phonics. My only complaint is many lessons are 3 pages long- front and back which I feel is a lot of work at the Kindergarten level. It is taking us a bit longer to complete this program because some lessons I broke into 2 days due to the amount of work. Also some of the pictures are difficult for small children to know what they are. Overall I like this program and will plan to purchase the First grade program

Don't judge a book by its cover

This product is grate! My daughter learned to read very quickly with this product. The program is very advanced and some of the pages can be over welming I recomend going at your childs pace and not the books recomended pace. There is alot of seat work to be done so this might not be a good fit for an active child.

a bright, colorful phonics curriculum.

If you like the bright, beautiful colors in Horizon's math curriculum, you will likely enjoy the phonics as well. This curriculum is concise, direct, easy to implement, and PACKED, the box loaded, with workbooks, teacher's guide, puzzles, white board, readers. It makes the organized person in me HAPPY. One caveat is that I used this with my 1st grader, and there's NO WAY any of my children would have been able to use Horizons phonics and reading Kindergarten in kindergarten, way too advanced. Nonetheless, i wouldn't hesitate to recommend it for 1st graders.
