IQ Weather uses 20 short online video lessons to help students understand what causes weather patterns, how forecasts work, and why changing conditions affect everyday life.
Students explore topics like clouds, wind, storms, forecasting, and changing weather patterns while connecting lessons to things they already notice—what to wear, whether games get canceled, why animals behave differently, or why yesterday's forecast missed entirely.
The video-based format keeps lessons manageable while still providing opportunities for deeper exploration. Older students can tackle discussion questions, lesson plans, downloadable resources, and additional reading designed to extend learning.
Students interested in going further will also find interviews with meteorologists, storm chasers, and weather professionals that show how weather science works outside textbooks.
Built-in quizzes provide immediate feedback and can be repeated when students want another attempt.
Hands-on experiments are suggested throughout the course, but families short on time can simply watch the demonstration videos instead.
This works equally well as a focused weather unit or alongside a broader earth science program—and it tends to create children who suddenly start commenting on cloud formations during ordinary car rides.
How to Use IQ Weather
- Plan to complete about one lesson at a time, using the short video lessons as your starting point. Because lessons are relatively brief, many families use them as standalone science sessions or alongside another science program.
- Much of the learning happens as we talk through observations, predictions, and why the weather behaves the way it does.
- Follow your child’s curiosity when possible. Some students are perfectly happy learning the basics. In contrast, others suddenly want to understand storms, forecasts, or cloud formations in much greater detail.
- Use the quizzes as quick check-ins rather than high-pressure tests. Since quizzes can be retaken, they work well for reviewing concepts and reinforcing vocabulary.
- Add experiments when time allows, and watch the demonstration videos when it does not. The course works well either way.
