I’m glad we found this curriculum. My son has really enjoyed the stories and even liked the poetry unit. I was on the fence about the teacher’s manual, but have found it to be helpful. It has way more information than you need, but I like that there are example questions that go with each story. Some are ‘Literal’ and refer to specific events in the story and some are ‘Analytical’ which are more comprehension type questions that look for deeper meaning in the story. The workbook does have a fair bit of writing, so we usually split each section up over a few days, but it’s all really helped him with things like vocabulary, thinking deeper about the stories, as well as being able to go back and skim for specific information. We’re looking forward to the next level.

We have a reluctant reader but so glad we decided to add Mosdos to our curriculum. Its been so much fun. The story selections and poetry is so interesting. We do usually skip the writing pages in the student activity book because we are doing a lot of other writing between Daily 6 and FLL but do most of the other activities. It has been a lot of fun so far and we look forward to the rest of the stories and activities.

This curriculum was very overwhelming for my 9 year old and me. There is so much information that it's overwhelming, and the poetry section was just terrible. I didn't like that I had to pre-read every story, because there is a lot of 'death' sprinkled throughout this book, and because of a family tragedy, it is a huge trigger for my daughter. So this curriculum was completely exhausting for both of us.

This is our first year with Mosdos. Last year we completed the last level in All About Reading. The transition went pretty well, but I set up a schedule that works for us because this program has a lot in it, and it can be overwhelming at first. We don’t do everything that is available in the program, but we do what works for us. My student loves the stories; it’s his favorite part. He does not like the workbook because there is a lot of writing involved, but once we started doing a lot of it verbally it got better. The vocab section is great. The reason I took off a star is because there are pages that are physically difficult for my student to read due to the text being over a faded image. There’s lots of pages where this isn’t an issue and the text is over a solid color background, but there’s enough of it to where my student gets frustrated with it. We use reader highlighter cards to help with reading and the card placed on the text with the image background in it makes it even worse. I wish they would have printed all of the text on a white background. I have attached some pictures to show what I’m talking about. Hope it helps!

My favorite literature curriculum!

I am very excited to use this with my 4th grader this year. I looked over all the stories and lessons and think this will be the curriculum we will use for many years to come. The stories are beautifully-written and have such good messages. The workbook lessons are wonderful at reinforcing concepts learned in the text.

We love all the stories, poems and questions within the entire Mosdos series. We keep a journey and answer questions in there as well. My daughter likes the workbook because it's colorful and not black and white like the other ones. She likes how the textbook is so vivid in color.

When I first opened this literature set at the end of summer, prepping for the new homeschooling year, I was worried I wouldn't be able to adjust away from our "open and go" language arts program. It felt like I would need to do a lot more lesson planning than I was ready for. I decided to give it a week or two before making any decisions. We are now 7 months into our 4th grade school year and both my daughter and I have enjoyed almost every single story/poem in the book. The stories are diverse and the workbook has wonderful vocabulary words and challenging questions. The teacher guide is huge but has a lot of thought-inspiring prompt questions. We will be getting the 5th grade book for next year!
