By sixth grade, science becomes less about collecting facts and more about understanding systems, relationships, and evidence. My Pals Are Here! International Science Grade 6 builds on earlier years by asking students to think more carefully about increasingly complex ideas.
Across multiple units, students explore biology, chemistry, physics, and earth science through topics like reproduction, heredity, heat transfer, natural disasters, soil, cells, the water cycle, and more.
Built around Singapore’s 5E approach—engage, explore, explain, elaborate, and evaluate—the program encourages students to investigate questions, interpret information, support conclusions, and apply scientific thinking more independently.
The program uses three components: a full-color textbook, a consumable activity book, and a teacher guide that provides lesson support, pacing suggestions, materials lists, and answer keys.
Lessons combine reading, discussion, written responses, illustrations, activities, and hands-on experiences while placing increasing emphasis on explanation, analysis, and application.
As topics become larger and more interconnected, students spend more time evaluating evidence, discussing relationships between concepts, and supporting their reasoning.
The structure remains intentionally parent-friendly while gradually shifting more responsibility toward the student.
This level moves science beyond learning how systems work and begins asking students to explain why they work the way they do.

How to Use My Pals Are Here! Science
- Work through two lettered sections each week. This pace keeps the course moving comfortably through a standard school year while leaving room for review when needed.
- Use all three components together. Read through the textbook lessons, reinforce ideas in the activity book, and keep the Teacher Guide nearby for pacing suggestions, discussion prompts, materials lists, and answer keys.
- Expect lessons to rely more heavily on discussion, explanation, and written responses than earlier levels. Activities remain important, but students spend more time supporting conclusions, connecting concepts, and explaining ideas.
- Allow your sixth grader to take increasing ownership of the process. Encourage him to read directions independently, complete more written work on his own, and explain what he is learning before stepping in with help.
- Use review sections intentionally. Topics become larger and more connected at this level, so occasional extra discussion often pays off later.
Singapore's My Pals are Here International Science materials are based on the science curricula presented in the Singapore public schools. This kid-friendly curriculum is based on the inquiry method of study.
Full-color photographs and illustrations in the My Pals are Here International Science textbook will immediately grab your student's attention. But, it is the easy-to-use Teacher's Guide that will make it super-appealing for any homeschool parent.
MPH Science develops higher-order thinking skills through the questions raised to ignite your child's curiosity and build his inquiry skills.
MPH Science covers biology, chemistry, physics, and earth science elements at each level. At the end of each unit is a review, a test, a glossary, and more.
There are just three books for each grade level: a Textbook, a consumable Activity Book, and a Teacher's Guide. Each black-and-white Teacher's Guide includes lesson plans, suggestions for teaching, and answers to all textbook and activity book exercises.
The black-and-white consumable Activity Book provides related exercises and reinforces concepts, many learned through art-based activities. Other hands-on activities are included to develop students' competencies and cater to kinesthetic and visual learners.
MPH Science does require frequent parental involvement, regardless of the grade being taught. Parents will need to oversee experiments, explain concepts, and answer questions. Thankfully, everything you will require is covered in the Teacher's Guides; you do not need a strong science background. Corresponding pages of the textbook and activity book are referenced. Any other resources or materials you may need are cited. They have even suggested how much time is necessary for every step of each lesson.
While there are plenty of hands-on activities, MPH Science has chosen to emphasize reading, written work, and student-teacher interaction over many science experiments. That is welcome news for parents who dread the work and the mess of science experiments.
MPH Science is a solid, complete, enjoyable program for elementary grades. The series offers a stress-free introduction to science facts and principles, foundational for deeper study. The My Pals Are Here series is a comprehensive scientific study for grades 1-6.

All three books for the year: the full-color Textbook, the Activity Book your child writes in, and the Teacher's Guide, with lesson plans and answers to every textbook and activity book exercise.
In this International edition, Grade 6 is a single set, so one of each book covers the whole year.
These are printed paperback books that ship to your door. Want a look first? The View PDF link under Overview shows sample pages from the Textbook, Activity Book, and Teacher's Guide.
Plan to be part of each lesson. You'll oversee activities, explain concepts, and answer questions, and the Teacher's Guide gives you what you need for all of it, even without a science background.
Sixth grade is also where your child starts carrying more of the load: reading directions on his own, doing more of the written work, and explaining what he's learned before you step in.
The Teacher's Guide plans each lesson in periods of about 40 minutes, so a 40-minute session is a natural day's work. At two lettered sections a week, Grade 6 fills one school year with room left for review.
