Timberdoodle's Review

Story Time Chess
Back in the '80s, when Timberdoodle was just getting launched, homeschoolers were known for their denim jumpers, wheat grinders, and love of chess. Fast forward nearly 40 years, and our fashion sense and household expectations have improved, but our passion for chess is just as strong. Has your family felt this homeschooling peer pressure? Or do you want some of the proven benefits that chess provides - strengthening academic performance, sharpening critical thinking, and boosting emotional intelligence - then Story Time Chess is a great place to start.

From the Manufacturer:
Story Time Chess is a board game that teaches chess to young children using silly stories, vibrant illustrations, custom chess pieces, and a unique chess board. The stories and supporting materials communicate the rules of chess to children ages 3 and up in a way that makes learning chess simple and fun. Best of all, no chess experience is required for parents or children to learn.

”What sets Story Time Chess apart is its ability to teach chess to young children (no chess experience is required). It does this using silly stores, colorful illustrations, custom chess pieces and a custom chess board. Children learn how to play chess through fun stories instead of rules!”

    Excellent Game!

My kiddos (3 and 6) love this game! The stories are fun and really help the kids understand the game. Also, huge kudos to Timberdoodle! Our game arrived damaged and they replaced it quickly and painlessly. I highly recommend this game and Timberdoodle.

A delightful way to learn chess!

We have only just started and I’m already so excited for the rest of the challenges! I am learning along with my student and it is a great experience. I’m so glad I bought this game- I went back and forth about spending the money and it has been well worth it in just a few weeks.

    We’re both learning chess!!!

I’m learning chess alongside my son and he keeps reminding me what to do because the rhymes are so easy for him to remember! Only negative is that it smells soooo bad fresh out the box. We let it air out in the sun.

    Fun but not durable

We are really enjoying this game and it makes learning fun for my 5 year old who is obsessed with kings and knights. Unfortunately the quality of the pieces isn’t great. The character pieces are printed on cardboard and are supposed to be perforated so they will pop out and can be attached to the standard chess pieces. Our pieces were not thoroughly cut and tore. It’s sad that this game was damaged the moment we took it out of the box, especially when it’s many times the cost of other chess sets and books
