An Animal Poem for Every Day of the Year
If your child hears the word poetry and immediately looks for an escape route, Tiger, Tiger, Burning Bright! offers a more approachable introduction—through animals.
This beautifully illustrated collection includes 366 animal poems—one for every day of the year—featuring creatures that are fierce, funny, strange, familiar, real, and imaginary.
The collection spans more than 400 years of poetry from 22 countries, mixing beloved classics with modern selections. Some poems are quick and playful. Others invite slower reading and bigger conversations.
Because the poems vary widely in length and complexity, this collection works well for short read-aloud moments, morning time, bedtime reading, poetry tea times, or simply opening to a random page and seeing what appears.
The animal theme gives children an easy entry point, especially for those who might resist poetry presented as a school subject.
Large, sturdy, and designed for repeated use, this is the kind of book families can return to for years without ever feeling they have read everything it has to offer.

We use this daily as part of our morning calendar activity for first grade. The student writes their name, day, month, and year. Then, the daily poem is read aloud. Afterwards, the student draws a picture and writes a short sentence about the poem. It’s been a great way to start each day!

This book is stunning - the art and the poems. We read the poem of the day every school day and most non-school days the poem still gets read. It's a beloved part of our days. We will be reading this one for years, I am quite certain.

Beautiful Book of Poetry

Poetry was one of those things I was never really interested in myself, but I know that exposure to the language and form of poetry is very beneficial to children in particular. With that in mind, this has to be my favorite collection of poetry. There is a great variety of poets and the illustrations are stunning. I especially love how it's just one poem a day... Quite manageable!

When I first bought this kit, this book wasn't in the kit, so I purchased it from another website and it is incredibly beautiful. The illustrations are so vivid, full of color, and quite intriguing for all of our kiddos (3, 5, 8, and 10 year old).

Surprisingly Fun
Tasha G.
When I first looked at this book it was intimidating and a bit overwhelming for me. However, once we got started the kids wouldn't let me put it down. We had a blast reading all the poems about animals and then finding the animals they were talking about in the beautiful illustrations. It was an amazing introduction to the world of poetry!
