How to Use Discover! Social Studies
- Discover! Social Studies is designed as a full-year curriculum. We suggest completing two lessons each week, or one lesson and one review, to comfortably finish the course during a typical academic year.
- Each lesson combines reading, discussion, and written activities to help your child engage with new ideas and connect with the world around him. Encourage him to explain concepts in his own words, share observations, and discuss how the topics relate to everyday life.
- Use the Instructor Guide as your primary teaching resource. It provides lesson support, answer keys, teaching suggestions, and ideas for adapting lessons to different learning styles.
- Whenever possible, connect the lessons to real-life experiences. Conversations about communities, geography, cultures, government, economics, or historical events often become more meaningful when children can see how those ideas apply beyond the page.
- Don't feel pressured to rush through the material. Social studies is often best learned through discussion, reflection, and making connections. If a topic sparks extra interest, take time to explore it further before moving on.
By the end of the course, your child will have developed a stronger understanding of people, places, communities, and cultures while building the critical-thinking and communication skills that support lifelong learning.

Not a favorite

I thought we would like this curriculum, but unfortunately, it hasn't been a favorite. The information is great, but I think it is too in-depth sometimes. We have still been using it but are scaling back on the lessons and incorporating Evan Moor's history pockets.
