Mathematical Reasoning Beginning 1 (PreK 3)
Preschoolers are natural problem-solvers. They're constantly sorting, comparing, counting, noticing patterns, and asking questions about how things work. This workbook takes those everyday discoveries and turns them into a strong foundation for mathematical thinking.
Across 240 colorful pages, your child explores counting, shapes, measurement, patterns, positions, comparing, classifying, early fractions, data analysis, and more. Rather than simply memorizing facts, he learns to observe, reason, and apply what he knows to solve problems.
The lessons follow a gentle spiral approach, regularly revisiting familiar concepts while introducing new ones. This steady review helps ideas stick, allowing your child to build confidence as each new skill grows naturally from the last.
Activities are short, varied, and developmentally appropriate for young learners. As your child circles shapes, compares objects, identifies patterns, and interprets simple graphs, he is strengthening the reasoning skills that will support future success in mathematics.
What sets this workbook apart is its emphasis on reasoning, not just getting the right answer. Children learn to look for relationships, make predictions, and explain their reasoning—skills that extend far beyond math lessons.
Written to align with national math standards, Mathematical Reasoning Beginning 1 helps children see how mathematical ideas connect to one another and to everyday life. Whether he's figuring out which group has more, spotting a pattern, or organizing information, your child is building habits of thinking that will serve him well throughout his education.
For preschoolers who are ready for more than simple counting practice, Mathematical Reasoning Beginning 1 provides a thoughtful, confidence-building introduction to the world of mathematics.

My child viewed this book not as homework, but rather a game. At first I stuck to the schedule and did not go past our daily pages fearing that I would overwhelm or overstimulate her. One day she did not want to put this book down so I figured I would continue as long as she had interest and we finished the entire thing! The puzzles, challenges, and activities I felt were age appropriate and were well worded for her understanding. It makes my job easier when Mathematical Reasoning Beginning 1 explains things in a way she understands the first time. Solid five star review from us!

Love for preschool!

I love how it’s a book that helps with counting and basic mathematical ideas. It repeats itself enough that I don’t feel like I have to make sure my child gets every idea, but also switches up information so it’s not too redundant.

Great math beginnings

We use these before Math U See and it had worked well. Our 3rd kid will be starting it soon. A big workbook!

Good workbook for math
Dorothy W.
It's not my sons favorite, but that is a reflection of him, NOT the book. The colors are pretty, the illustrations well done and I really like that there is no drill work in the book (it would make already challenging workbook time impossible for my easily bored son). Every page is something new and different. My point is, if you have a child like mine who HATES workbooks, this is as good as it's going to get for a preschooler and for that, I give it 4.5 stars out of 5. I only knock half a star because the pages are super thin and that can lead to easily being ripped or torn, but it's such a minor complaint I'd actually make it 4.75 stars out of 5. Absolutely great math workbook.

Great

It is a very well thought out book that I enjoy working through with my daughter. While it certainly isn't her favorite, it is an easy to understand implementation of math for early learners. We tend to take it out twice a week doing a few pages each time rather than every day.
