Beginning Word Roots
Better Reading And Decoding Skills
According to national standards, students in grades four to twelve must now be able to demonstrate their knowledge of how to use common Greek and Latin roots for analyzing the meaning of complex words.
Lovely! Isn't this just what we needed, one more requirement from the government that our children will be tested for yearly? Yet surprisingly enough, it is one that makes sense. Children who have a solid grasp of word roots are bound to be children with better reading comprehension skills, primarily because they have acquired the ability to decode words. But regardless of the benefit, you're probably not looking for another task. In that case, you will appreciate the Word Roots series. It will teach your children the meanings of Latin and Greek prefixes, roots, and suffixes of words commonly used in English. With reproducible pages, the entire family can be prepared for any assessment tests their state throws at them.
Word Roots teaches children the meanings of prefixes, roots, and suffixes commonly used in English. Learning word elements dramatically improves spelling and the ability to decode unfamiliar words. Word Roots will add hundreds of words to your child's vocabulary and greater depth to their thinking and writing.

BEGINNING WORD ROOTS REVIEW
"...Each lesson focuses on Root Words and either suffixes or prefixes that go with the Root Word. He was able to grasp this concept through the great graphs they have in the lessons, dividing up the prefix/suffix and their definition and the particular Root Word that is being studied. He had no problem understanding how to make new words and definitions by combining the prefix/suffix with the Root. Each lesson is between 2 and 4 pages long, we usually did a page or 2 at a time. I was not able to completely let him do this independently, I probably could have if he were a little older. I was honestly surprised by how much he enjoys this book! I will definitely be getting the next one in the series when he completes this one!..."
