This is a great book that helps kids understand vocabulary and increases spelling skills as well. It was much to difficult for my fourth grader but my 6th grader has no trouble with it.
For 9th grade, I wanted to incorporate vocabulary so I bought book 1 and 2. However, book 1 would have been plenty for the year had we continued homeschooling. Prefixes, definitions, and usage were sufficiently covered. He never complained. I liked that it didn't seem to eat up to much time.
This book has helped my son really grasp some of the concepts in spelling.
We used this when it was still the 2 separate books for Grade 3 and 4 and it was fantastic. When you know the meaning and spelling of a wood root, and then prefixes and suffixes, spelling and vocabulary comes so much easier to a child. Word decoding and defining became much easier as we moved through this book, as everything comes back to roots. The layout makes perfect sense for optimal learning.
