Knowing financial vocabulary and making financial decisions are not the same thing. Beyond Personal Finance bridges that gap by placing your teen inside a simulated adult life where every decision affects what comes next. Over this one-semester course (typically counted as ½ credit), your teen chooses a career, earns income, rents housing, buys vehicles, pays taxes, invests, budgets for major expenses, and manages the financial realities that come with adult responsibilities.
The course combines workbook activities, online worksheets, and short video lessons that explain both the mechanics behind financial decisions and the consequences that often follow them.
Students do more than calculate numbers. They experience what happens when expenses stack up, budgets get stretched, priorities compete, and long-term decisions begin limiting short-term choices.
The simulation follows a young adult through increasingly complex stages of life, allowing students to experience financial tradeoffs while mistakes still cost nothing more than a better decision next time.
Some teens become cautious planners. Others discover that their dream lifestyle costs more than expected. Most finish with a clearer understanding of why adulthood involves so many spreadsheets.
Beyond Personal Finance emphasizes decision-making, budgeting, planning, and financial reasoning, so students leave with more than definitions—they leave with practice.

Beyond Personal Finance is a great course take. After we mastered the rhythm of mom not forgetting to mark and give "bonuses," he quickly found the course to be easy to follow. It sparked some really good conversations about how much things can cost and our own choices in those matters. He noticed and appreciated some of the decisions his parents had made over the years, even if the decisions weren't always the "fun" ones. The course really sticks to real life - it's better than the one I took in high school. Highly recommend this one!

My boys have really learned a lot with this. I would even say they have enjoyed it after they got the hang of it. They both found the information to be informative and useful. One found out they can't just buy anything they want because life will throw you some curveballs. It was fun listening to them discuss with one another what they pulled from the "plot twist of doom" (what they called it). "Did you see how much health insurance cost? Wow, kids are expensive!" Overall, a great program to teach teens about real life finance.

Great Curriculum with Room for Minor Improvements

Beyond Personal Finance is a solid, engaging curriculum that helps students understand real-life financial decisions in a practical way. It covers important topics like budgeting, careers, loans, and investing using interactive lessons and realistic scenarios. One small downside is that the font throughout the materials is unusually large, which makes some pages feel bulky or stretched out. A more compact layout could improve readability and flow. Overall, it's a great tool for preparing teens for the financial responsibilities of adulthood.
