Here and There
What does a typical day look like for a child on the other side of the world? Here and There invites young readers to explore that question through a warm, engaging look at everyday life in countries and cultures around the globe.
Rather than focusing on famous landmarks or historical events, this beautifully illustrated book highlights the ordinary moments that make up daily life. Children discover how families shop, travel, celebrate, learn, play, eat, and work in different parts of the world while finding surprising similarities to their own experiences.
Organized into 12 short chapters covering topics such as food, transportation, nature, homes, festivals, and recreation, the book presents information in small, approachable pieces that are easy to read and discuss. The cheerful retro-style illustrations add personality and help bring each scene to life.
One of the book's greatest strengths is the way it encourages comparison without judgment. As children learn about daily routines in other countries, they naturally begin noticing both the differences that make cultures unique and the shared experiences that connect people everywhere.
The format works especially well for family read-alouds, geography studies, cultural exploration, or simply satisfying a curious child's questions about the wider world. Many pages naturally lead to conversations about traditions, customs, family life, and what it means to live in different environments.
For families hoping to nurture cultural awareness, empathy, and global curiosity, Here and There offers an inviting introduction to the diverse ways people live around the world while celebrating the common threads that connect us all.

Social Studies done right

This engaging colorful read effectively intrigues your kindergartener with the vast array of cultures in our wonderful world. Everything is presented as is—the way the cultures think of it (to the best of the writers knowledge). Do not expect any judgement calls from this work.

Fun book

This is a fun book, but I struggled to incorporate it for the whole school year. I'm sure with a little creativity, you could make an entire cultural curriculum out of it,

Great book, Too big.

Fun and engaging but too big! And it could use some lift the flaps or more succinct text.

Gorgeous book with interesting topics

I would have given this book a 5 star rating, but the only reason I didn't is that my kindergartener hasn't really gotten into it yet. We read a lot and given that this is a book that is read to her, she's gotten a little bored. If it came with some suggested activities or something to do or draw, it might hold her attention more. That being said, I LOVE everything about this book. The artwork is fun and engaging. The content is perfect for gaining a basic understanding of the diversity of the world we live in. Going forward, I think we'll benefit by pretending we are in another country and doing some of the things the book discusses, like shopping at a bazaar and celebrating different festivals.

A great addition to Geography
Rachel H.
We would read this book before starting up on our Geography workbooks. I really loved how this book describes seemingly simple to-dos (like grocery shopping) in different parts of the world. I learned a lot and the kids did too.
