Italic Handwriting Book E – Grade 4
Italic Handwriting Book E continues your fourth grader's cursive italic practice using the Getty-Dubay method, with science as the connecting theme across the lessons. Practice content moves through animal habitats, DNA, photosynthesis, minerals, continents, galaxies, and more, alongside short notes on the history of the letters your child is writing. Letter sizes step down across the book: 6mm, then 5mm, then 4mm.
Because italic uses one alphabet from Book B onward, your child isn't switching letterform systems at any point in the series—he's continuing to refine cursive italic he's been building for two or three years by now.
We're handwriting realists around here—nobody's life is going to be ruined by sloppy penmanship. But back when most of our orders came in by mail, the ones we could actually read without squinting were a small daily relief. Decades later, good handwriting is still a small gift to the recipient.
Book E is a good fit for a typical fourth grader, or for a child who has worked through Book D and is ready to keep refining cursive while writing smaller.

Shorter, meaningful, and regular practice is better than longer and/or sporadic sessions. For students in 3rd to 6th grade, we recommend 60-120 minutes per week (12-24 minutes per day).
