Lab Kit for Science in the Beginning
Preparing science labs is much easier when the hardest-to-find supplies are already waiting in one box. The Berean Builders Science in the Beginning Lab Kit includes more than 20 specialty items used throughout the first edition of Science in the Beginning, making hands-on science easier to prepare and more enjoyable to teach.
The kit contains many of the experiment materials you'll need, including iodine, batteries, balloons, modeling clay, an LED flashlight, and other specialty supplies. (See the Details tab for the complete list.) You'll still provide a few common household items and fresh grocery ingredients, but there's no need to hunt down dozens of unusual materials before each lesson.
Designed to accompany the curriculum, the experiments help your child investigate foundational scientific concepts, including the nature of light, energy conservation, the properties of air and water, introductory botany, the solar system, basic zoology, and human anatomy and physiology. Each activity reinforces the lesson through observation, experimentation, and hands-on discovery.
The lab kit is designed for parent-led instruction and is not intended for children under 12 to use independently. Simplifying the preparation allows you to spend less time gathering supplies and more time exploring God's creation together.
How to Use Lab Kit for Science in the Beginning
- Keep the lab kit nearby as you work through Science in the Beginning. When an experiment calls for a specialty item, simply gather the needed pieces from the kit along with any common household supplies or fresh grocery items listed in the lesson.
- Read through each experiment before you begin, so everything is within reach. Having the materials ready ahead of time keeps the focus on observing, asking questions, and enjoying the investigation instead of searching for supplies.
- After each lab, return the reusable pieces to the kit so they'll be easy to find for the next experiment. A few minutes of organization now will save time throughout the year.

It's convenient

You pay for convenience here, which I knew beforehand. Everything has a cheap feel to it, and it doesn't come with every single item the book calls for, which is slightly less convenient, but oh well. My biggest issue was the packaging; everything was thrown loose in the box, including the fluorescent light bulb, with a bit of packing paper on top. All in all, it's expensive for what you get.

Great, but missing some things!

I love these kits because they are a complete time saver. However, they are supposed to include everything you need to the experiments (excluding perishables for obvious reasons). However, I have found a couple things missing that I had to go track down. A plastic 2L bottle was the biggest one that I remember. We don't drink soda so finding one was a chore and could have easily been included in the kit.

I very much like the Science in the Beginning lab kit, it is very frustrating to try to do an experiment, and not have the items on hand. I will probably continue to buy the lab kits with our Timberdoodle Curriculum.

We didn't use all of this kit. I did like the easiness of having everything I needed on hand. If I was to do it again I would just buy things as we went since my kids didn't care for the curriculum.

I am SOOOO stinking happy that this comes with the science book, because as a person who doesn't love science, this does encourage me to actually do the projects with my kids because of the prepwork being done for you! ages 5-6

Not worth the money

This kit has some good items for science experiments, but it's not worth the price. If you get everything yourself it would be half the price.
