Real Science-4-Kids Book 5 takes students one step deeper by asking a question many science programs never address: How do we know what we know?
Up to this point, students have learned what science is, how scientists investigate questions, how scientific ideas apply to everyday life, and how different concepts connect. Book 5 zooms out and examines the process of scientific knowledge itself.
Students explore questions such as how scientists determine whether an explanation is supported by evidence, how models help us understand things we cannot directly observe, how data is interpreted, and why scientific understanding sometimes changes when new evidence is discovered.
One of the strengths of Book 5 is that it encourages students to think beyond individual facts. How to Use Real Science-4-Kids
- Plan to complete one chapter each week. With 22 chapters in the book, this pace fits comfortably into a typical school year while leaving room for breaks, field trips, and life's inevitable interruptions.
- Each chapter is divided into 5–11 short sections, making it easy to adjust the schedule to fit your family. Many families prefer to complete 4–5 sections per week, while others enjoy reading a section each day and finishing chapters more quickly.
- Read the lesson together or have your student read independently. The clear explanations and engaging illustrations make the material accessible. The audio-narrated digital flipbook provides additional support for auditory learners and emerging readers.
- Use the Student Pages, quizzes, and notebook activities as desired to reinforce learning. These optional resources help students process and apply what they have learned without turning science into a workbook-heavy subject.
- Experiments are entirely optional. If your family enjoys hands-on learning, choose activities from the Digital Teaching Dashboard that fit your schedule and interest level. If not, students can still gain a strong understanding of the material through the reading and discussion alone.

One of the most common questions we get: "Should my child start with Book 1 in first grade, or wait until third?"
The short answer: it depends on reading ability and how much support you'll provide. This is a good science curriculum that many levels can enjoy. It covers lots of categories and you will need to download online materials and resources to add to it, even experiments. My son enjoys it and we like to supplement with other curricula and units we find interesting to shake things up a bit!

Really struggling with this science curriculum. I've been able to start teaching everything else but I keep getting stuck on this science curriculum. There are no answer keys to print out or even look at for student worksheets, student worksheets are extremely confusing and forget about doing any experiments without purchasing the kit for an extra 200 plus dollars. It would have been nice to have more material in my hands to help me teach. We'll read the book but I'm just not a fan at all.

Trying really hard to like this product but it just isn't engaging enough. Heavy on the reading and not enough activities to keep my little one engaged. Plus so many errors. Chapter 2 quiz contains at least 1 error, out of a 7 question quiz, I feel that this is unacceptable. I would absolutely return this curriculum if I could. Do your homework before you purchase.

Real Science 4 Kids has been such a great addition to our homeschool. Science was often the subject forgotten about or left until the eleventh hour of the school year. This program is comprehensive, covering five areas of science (chemistry, biology, geology, physics, and astronomy) clearly and engagingly. Experiments are easy to prepare, as most include items we already have. The textbook is laid out well so that it is engaging and informative, but not overwhelming. It builds on the year before, adding more and more information to the overall picture. Great curriculum!

Wonderful! This book goes over the 5 categories of science: chemistry, biology, physics, geology, and astronomy. It is all done in a kid friendly way. The books used to be called Building Blocks of Science if you are looking for those.
