As students read about important people and events, they simultaneously strengthen spelling skills through copywork, chunking activities, dictation, and vocabulary study.
Rather than relying on weekly spelling lists, the program helps students recognize and remember spelling patterns through repeated exposure to words in context. Students continue working with common spelling structures while expanding their understanding of prefixes, suffixes, and word meanings. This deeper study of word construction helps students become stronger spellers, readers, and writers.
Short daily lessons provide consistent opportunities to strengthen spelling, reading fluency, vocabulary, and visual processing skills. How to Use Spelling You See Level G: Modern Milestones
- Set aside just 10 minutes a day, five days a week. Students work through one nonfiction passage each week, building spelling, vocabulary, reading fluency, and visual processing skills through short, consistent lessons.
- On Days 1–2, read the weekly passage aloud, identify and mark letter patterns as directed, and have your child copy the passage for up to 10 minutes before marking the targeted patterns. Complete the accompanying Workshop activity to reinforce vocabulary and word-study concepts.
- On Days 3–4, read the passage aloud again and continue marking the designated letter patterns. These activities strengthen visual memory and help students recognize spelling patterns and word structures in meaningful context.
- On Day 5, read the passage aloud, review the week's letter patterns, and complete a 10-minute dictation exercise. After dictation, mark the patterns in the dictated text. This process helps students apply spelling concepts while strengthening listening, writing, and editing skills.
- When 10 minutes are up, stop—even if the page isn't finished. The effectiveness of Spelling You See comes from short, consistent practice over time, not from completing every activity perfectly.

In Level G, Spelling You See changes slightly from years past. Rather than coloring vowel or consonant chunks, students are finding and marking base words, suffixes, and prefixes. This is a great introduction to beginning the Word Roots series in the following grades. My daughter finds it easy to understand and enjoys the different stories that are copied each week. She can begin the week's work without my instruction. A great last installment in the series!

We love using Spelling You See levels! This is our second year using them (last year for grade 5, and this year for grade 6.) I appreciate the informative paragraphs the students are encouraged to write each week. My son finds them engaging and he really learns so much. These are also great to get children to begin to explore different ideas and people. We use them as a jumping off point each week to dive deeper into studying the topics he writes about in this book during other parts of our day. Very robust and engaging!

We love these spelling books because it really goes over the consonant chunks and the valid chunks and it emphasizes patterns. The lessons are easy for on the go school too.

I really enjoy all the Spelling-U-See levels. They are great for visual and hands-on learners. I like how the lessons are laid out. They aren’t too overwhelming. This curriculum is great for handwriting as well.

Great for Copywork, not so much spelling

LOVE this program

This is our 2nd year using this program and we continue to love it. This level (G) breaks spelling down into prefixes, suffixes, and base words. It also adds an element of independence as the new information is written down for the student in the student workbook. I also like that my son is learning a little bit more about famous people from this era such as musicians, philosophers, etc and then we can connect it to the Arts.
