Language Smarts Level B Grade 1
Language Smarts Level B combines language arts instruction and critical-thinking practice in a way that keeps first graders actively engaged. Across 352 colorful pages, students strengthen reading, writing, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary skills while learning to think carefully about language and communication.
Each lesson introduces new concepts through short, manageable activities that encourage students to apply what they are learning. Along the way, children solve riddles, complete editing exercises, rearrange sentences, identify patterns, follow directions, and work through reasoning challenges that reinforce language skills in meaningful ways.
Language Smarts goes beyond simple drill work. Students are regularly asked to analyze, compare, classify, sequence, and make connections, helping them develop stronger thinking and language skills. The result is a program that encourages understanding rather than rote memorization.
The pages are colorful, inviting, and designed with young learners in mind. Most activities can be completed independently, and lessons are short enough to fit comfortably into a typical school day without overwhelming newer readers and writers.
Whether used as a complete language arts curriculum or as a supplement to strengthen specific skills, Language Smarts Level B provides consistent practice in both communication and critical thinking. For students who enjoy puzzles, word play, and figuring things out, it offers plenty of opportunities to build confidence while strengthening essential first-grade language arts skills.

I really like Language Smarts books because the information is presented very simply but with lots of color. It’s a big book that touches on a lot of different things from punctuation to learning parts of a story. There’s lots of information in little snippets and it’s a great way to fill in a Language Arts program.

A good supplement
Hayes
This is a good supplemental option for extra language arts practice. I will randomly pull out some pages to change things up.

Great Book!

My 10 year old can do this book independently most days! He enjoys the amount of work on a page and the illustrations. I enjoy learning along side of him when he needs some guidance.

These pages actually stick!
jessica r.
And not to each other! These pages stick to the brains of children! My daughter most appreciates the illustrations, which are abundant. They truly help her gain interest and remember the lesson. The pace of the program is just right for her and each page covers only one concept at a time. This gives her a great feeling of accomplishment as the weeks pass and she can actually see her progress. The topics are structured in a logical format that makes sense and gives us flexibility to add supplemental materials when she either needs more or just has a strong interest and wants to keep going. We created a system of rewarding a fun sticker for every 4 pages of work complete. Her motivation with this book is outstanding and we plant to stick with this company for years to come. Our family HIGHLY recommends this series.

Okay but not great
Rebecca P.
We use this as a supplement for our Language Arts curriculum. The kids seem to enjoy the bright pages and the activities are engaging but sometimes it can be too repetitive about the same topic. We just skip over what I think is too much/redundant.

Great supplement to our language arts program but I don’t feel like it’s enough to use on it’s own.

Fun and colorful! We tried some other workbooks first and they were just so dry. This one is much more lively which keeps my 1st grader wanting to check it out!

LOVE LANGUAGE SMARTS
Jessica
I am not the greatest at all our our lovely language rules. I was struggling to find something to help me teach these things and found my life saver in Language Smarts. We started with lesson B and we are currently on C. I help read aloud the rules and explain them and my kids are able to grasp the concepts easily.

Language Smarts Level B

This book is definitely more of a supplemental book than an actual main curriculum book. We pick and choose our pages, and though it often describes the definitions of the words, it doesn't do a very good job at actually teaching the concepts. We will however continue to use it as a supplemental book, as it does help to strengthen my child's knowledge of the subject taught from a different book.

No Drudgery For English Class Anymore
Sunflower S.
I read through the other reviews and sure, there are issues of some slight imperfections but honestly I just work through them with my first grader. He's 6 and just thrilled with his English book. Thanks to Timberdoodle for offering this series! For the longest time my first grader was mostly interested in math (which isn't bad at all) but until this book other English programs weren't getting through the concepts of grammar without frustrating him. For me, a happy student is a student who will remember more of what he's taught.
