How to Use Spelling You See Level B: Jack and Jill
- Set aside just 10 minutes a day, five days a week. Students work through one nursery rhyme each week, building spelling, reading, handwriting, and visual processing skills through short, consistent lessons.
- Begin with Jack and Jill Part 1. During this stage, your child will read the weekly rhyme with you, practice letter formation, complete short copywork assignments, and write words from dictation using letter boxes. These activities help establish strong connections between sounds, letters, and written words.
- Once your child transitions into Jack and Jill Part 2, the focus shifts toward identifying letter patterns through Spelling You See's chunking activities. Students continue reading the weekly rhyme while learning to recognize and mark common spelling patterns within the text.
- On Days 1–3, students read the rhyme, mark letter patterns, and complete copywork for up to 10 minutes. Day 4 introduces a No Rules Day activity designed to encourage creative self-expression and build writing confidence. On Day 5, students complete a 10-minute dictation exercise using words and patterns they have been practicing throughout the week.
- When 10 minutes are up, stop—even if the page isn't finished. The effectiveness of Spelling You See comes from short, consistent practice over time, not from completing every activity perfectly.
- The Instructor's Handbook provides weekly lesson directions, dictation guidance, and teaching support, making preparation minimal for parents.

Great spelling program. My kids started out with this program and then I had them try others. One child has autism and kept failing her tests, no matter how may ways I had her practice. Example- arm tapping, large body movements, oral, written etc. etc. Switched her back to this program and she is doing great.

Approachable Spelling

Last years Spelling You See advanced quicker than my daughter’s reading skills; but not this year. She looked forward to spelling more than ever in 1st grade and I rarely used the 10 minute limit because she would be done before then. She especially likes the second book where it focuses on famous nursery rhymes. If you do a page spread every day the repetition helps your student to keep building their spelling skills without focusing on what they “get wrong.”

The first half of the program is spelling words and the second half is copy work. I like the simplicity, but I wish it would mix the copy work and the spelling words. I think next year, I'll work from both books at the same time for variety.

Great for spelling and handwriting!

This curriculum is great for spelling and handwriting! There is a lot of repetition in the lessons so spelling really improves as the course progresses. The lessons are great for practicing handwriting as well. I really enjoy how colored-pencils are incorporated for really solidifying spelling.

There is a lot more writing involved with B than A. We were not able to give as much time per day to B in beginning. We had to work her hand strength and writing stills up to it. Overall, I am incredibly happy with these books and plan to continue them as a part of our curriculum.
