All About Spelling Level 4 Full-Color Edition
Many spelling challenges become easier once a child learns to recognize the patterns hidden inside longer, more complex words. All About Spelling Level 4 helps your child bring together everything he has learned so far while introducing new phonograms, prefixes, syllable patterns, and advanced spelling concepts.
Built on the same multisensory, Orton-Gillingham-based approach as previous levels, Level 4 teaches one new concept at a time while continuing to reinforce mastery through review, dictation, and hands-on practice. Your child learns 12 new phonograms, including TCH, DGE, PH, and OE, while exploring prefixes, advanced syllable patterns, abbreviations, and common word endings.
As lessons progress, he'll tackle multisyllable words, learn how prefixes affect spelling and meaning, work with the various sounds of Y, and master challenging patterns such as /shun/ endings. Rather than treating difficult words as exceptions to memorize, he learns to break them apart and analyze the patterns that make them easier to spell.
Letter tiles, spelling analysis, dictation, and word-building activities continue to reinforce each new concept. The full-color Activity Book provides additional review and practice designed to strengthen retention while keeping lessons engaging.
The Teacher's Manual includes lightly scripted lessons, teaching tips, and step-by-step guidance, making daily instruction straightforward to teach. Most families complete lessons in about 15–20 minutes, allowing steady progress without overwhelming their child.
By Level 4, many children begin approaching unfamiliar words with greater confidence. Instead of guessing, they have learned to look for patterns, identify meaningful word parts, and apply the spelling principles they have spent years building. Level 4 strengthens those skills and prepares your child for increasingly advanced spelling and writing.

This is a great spelling curriculum. It helped with my daughters spelling deficits.

Worth it!

My son (11 yo Boy) was having some spelling issues. This level helped us give him the support in rules needed without making him feel insecure.

Great update
KitMama
We’ve been using all about spelling since level 1. I really like how it’s broken down by spelling “rules” and strategies rather than just memorization. The student workbook was a nice addition since my son really likes doing activities with the lessons. However, I was a little disappointed that the majority of them are just blank flash cards that the student can write their spelling words on. I would have liked to see a better variety of activities but glad we are continuing this curriculum.

Hands Down The Best

I started with SUS because it came in the kit. While we liked using it for a few years we discovered that it wasn't working for us. We tried a few others that didn't work either. We had used AAR so I began to look at AAS and it was a game changer. We have level 1-3 in the black and white version and 4 came in color. We love the color and I think my daughter would do well with the extra activities if she were younger. She is in 6th grade though and doesn't feel like she needs all of the activities and would rather use her own plain notebook. For that reason we don't use the student activity book for most of her writing. We do need it for the word banks as well as the Advanced Application sections. That section is new in Level 4 and I do like it.

Our favorite Spelling Curriculum
Lindsay G.
We've tried SO many spelling curriculums and this is by far our favorite! We love that it is quick (10 minutes a day max). We also love the dication sentences provided and that it is rooted in phonics. It works so well for all of my kids.

Another great level
Jen
We like All About Spelling in general because it’s a great way to learn the tools of spelling and not just memorizing. We like level 4 just as much as the other levels. My favorite part of the lessons are when there’s 5 words that my student has to spell and then make up sentences with them. I think it is really good practice on how to form complete thoughts on paper.

AAS Level 4

This is another great level from AAS. I love how this program isn’t just spelling memorization. In the previous levels, I didn’t have my son using the tiles when spelling. He seemed to do well enough without them but for level 4 I’ve added the tiles back in and it has made this level click so much more for him. I love how this program works for all learning styles and as a parent you can adapt it to your child in that moment. This is by far my favorite spelling program offered by Timberdoodle.

Best spelling program

We have loved using the All About Spelling program! I love how my kinesthetic learner, my visual learner, and my auditory learner can all succeed in each lesson because it is presented in so many ways. I am sad that we only have one year left with All About Spelling.

Excellent spelling program
Melanie
This program works very well for us. It teaches why words are spelled the way they are, without making you memorize a ton of exceptions to a very few spelling rules. It's easy to use and to teach, with no prep time required, and is not overly time-consuming.

All About Spelling Level 4
Karen L.
We have used all about spelling for several years. My son has been a struggling speller and AAS has helped him so much. I was so happy timberdoodle began offering it as part of the kit. Knowing the rules instead of just memorizing spelling lists has been so helpful.
