Please note: Happy Sad Feeling Glad is currently out of print. We are working with the publisher in hopes of having it reprinted, but do not have an estimated return date at this time. We have removed it from our Curriculum Kits for now and reduced the kit prices accordingly.
Sculpd Ultimate Mosaic Kit is unexpectedly unavailable. We have removed it from the Elite kit and reduced the Elite kit price to reflect this.
The OKTO Clay by Number Frog has also had unexpected supply issues and has been replaced by the cheery OKTO Clay by Number Koala.
What's in the Kindergarten Homeschool Kit
Kindergarten is where more structured learning begins—but that doesn’t mean sitting at a desk all day. Reading starts with a phonics-based program that builds from letter sounds to blending, while math introduces addition and subtraction with hands-on manipulatives. The kit includes history, geography, science, thinking skills, emotional intelligence, and art, with logic games and hands-on projects woven throughout.
Most items are the same in classic and nonreligious kits, with one difference in history and social studies. Compare tiers below to see what’s included, and use the customizer to swap anything that isn’t the right fit.
3 Top Features of our Kindergarten Curriculum Kits
- Well-rounded curriculum: Our curriculum kits include a variety of resources that meet or exceed most state standards
- Hands-on learning: Each Kindergarten kit includes a variety of material and hands-on activities that help students learn in a fun and engaging way
- Flexibility: Every kit can be customized to meet the needs of individual students.

Yes. Families across the country buy Timberdoodle kits with state scholarships, education savings accounts (ESAs), and charter school funds—and most families who buy a full year of curriculum from us pay nothing out of pocket. See which programs we work with and how to order with yours.
Do I order here, or through my program's marketplace?
That depends on your program. Some let you shop right here on timberdoodle.com and check out with your program's payment method. Others handle ordering inside their own marketplace, where you search for Timberdoodle and place the order there. The guide above walks through each one. If you're not sure which yours is, email us at hello@timberdoodle.com and we'll tell you.
Will I be charged anything myself?
No. When your program orders directly, your program is billed—not you. If you see a balance-due line on a program order, that's the amount your program pays, not something you owe.
My award won't cover a whole kit. What then?
Kits come in three levels—Basic, Complete, and Elite—so there's usually a version that fits your award. Many programs also allow customizing a kit, which lets you swap or drop items before you order. Individual items work too, if you'd rather fill the gaps in what you already own.
Which edition can I use—Classic or Nonreligious?
Your program's rules decide. Most funding programs require non-religious materials, and that's exactly what the Nonreligious edition is: the same kit, built without faith-based materials. Classic is there for families whose program allows it, or who are buying with their own funds.
Find answers to the most frequently asked questions about this product below:
We asked parents who used our Kindergarten Kit how long their student spent on "school,” and they estimated that their students spent 1-3 hours a day on their kit, working 4-5 days a week. That variation is likely to be impacted by how in-depth you take your child's studies, what your child's learning approach is, how distractible he is, and much more.
Our kindergarten homeschool curriculum kits are fully comprehensive. Each kit covers foundational phonics and reading readiness, math using hands-on manipulatives, history, geography, science, art, emotional intelligence, and critical thinking skills.
Absolutely. Our kindergarten curriculum is built precisely to guide non-readers from basic letter sounds all the way through to blending words. Because our kits rely heavily on hands-on logic games and visual projects, children can develop deep learning habits without feeling overwhelmed by workbook-heavy instructions.
Not sure if it’s time to move up? Totally normal!
A great place to start is with our Placement Tests. We have complete tests for younger kiddos to show exactly where they are. For older students, you’ll want to focus on the math and language arts sections to get a good feel for their readiness.
Kids are usually ready to jump into the next kit, with maybe a few exceptions. If your child is heading into 3rd grade but places into 2nd-grade math, no problem! You might want to grab the 3rd-grade kit and simply swap out the math.
If a subject didn’t stick last year, now’s your chance to figure out why.
- Maybe your child just missed a few concepts (hello, summer review!).
- Maybe the curriculum didn’t click.
- Maybe math just isn’t his jam (yet).
- Or maybe he needs a little extra support, and that’s okay!
One of the best things about homeschooling? You’re not locked into a one-size-fits-all timeline. You can customize learning to fit your child and help them succeed at their own pace.
Ready to start exploring? We’re here to help every step of the way!
Nope, and that's totally normal!
Here's the deal: Accreditation is for schools, not curriculum. Your local school district might be accredited, but their textbooks aren't. Accreditation looks at things like teacher degrees and classroom hours, not the books or materials being used. And since Timberdoodle kits aren't a school (they're a collection of awesome learning tools), there's nothing to accredit.
If you see a homeschool program claiming to be "accredited," just remember: it's the school that's accredited, not the curriculum.
And don't worry: no state requires homeschool curriculum to be accredited. (Phew!)
What you really want to know is: "Will Timberdoodle meet my state's homeschool requirements?" In most cases, the answer is yes. We meet or beat what's needed! However, every state's rules are a little different, so we recommend checking yours. (We even have a quick cheat sheet to help!)
Still scratching your head? Reach out. We'd love to help you figure it out!
We've been honored with more than 40 awards from top homeschooling resources over the years. We're talking about the Practical Homeschooling Reader Awards, The Old Schoolhouse Excellence in Education Awards, and Cathy Duffy's Top Picks. Our Elementary Curriculum, High School Curriculum, Kindergarten, Middle School Curriculum, and Preschool/Readiness kits have all earned top awards. We've also been recognized for our Boxed Curriculum and even for being Most Unique. These awards are a testament to how much our customers love our kits! Winning them means receiving very high satisfaction ratings from YOU, our amazing homeschooling families. It truly shows that the time and effort we put into creating comprehensive and engaging curriculum pays off!
Very little, and we'll name all of it. At the Basic level, the Classic and Nonreligious kits hold exactly the same items. At Complete and Elite there's one swap, in social studies: the Classic kit uses My Story K, and the Nonreligious kit uses 180 Days of Social Studies for Kindergarten instead.
The Handbooks differ too. The Classic Handbook's suggested reading list includes Christian titles, and wherever the materials differ, each Handbook's instructions are written for the materials in its own kit.
We flag these differences carefully. We serve charter school families who aren't permitted to buy materials containing religious content, so we label anything that carries any, even a reading list tucked inside a handbook. We'd rather over-label than let a family order something their program isn't allowed to buy.
You'll also notice there's no Bible course in the kit. That's deliberate. We believe Bible study is too important to become one more subject to check off. What your family studies should flex with your children's ages, what they're wrestling with, and what your church is walking through this year, and a boxed Bible curriculum can't do that.
Most of it, yes. The games, building sets, readers, and hands-on tools are made to last, so they can go back on the shelf for the next child. What gets used up is the workbooks and some of the craft supplies: in this kit, things like the Math-U-See Primer workbook, the All About Reading Level 1 student packet, and the handwriting book.
You don't have to work out that list yourself. The Kindergarten Additional Student Kit, just below Add to Cart, is exactly the used-up part, and it comes in Basic, Complete, and Elite to match the kit you bought.
Not unless you customized your kit to include one. Every Basic, Complete and Elite Curriculum Kit comes with the Math-U-See student workbook and test book, the hands-on pieces for that level, and a year of Math-U-See's online plan, which is where you'll find the lesson videos and the full instructor manual.
Your access code for the online plan is printed on a card packed in your box, often tucked inside the manipulatives box or wrapped with the books. Your year starts when you enter the code, not when you buy it. Your Scheduler code is a different one.
You'll teach reading, spelling and math, and each one comes with a teacher's manual or a video that shows you how. Much of the rest your kindergartner does alongside you or on his own.
- Taught by video: Math-U-See Primer.
- Short lessons you do together from the book: All About Reading Level 1, Spelling You See A, Italic Handwriting A, and in Complete and Elite, My Story K (Classic) or 180 Days of Social Studies (Nonreligious).
- Read and talk about together: the geography and science books, the feelings flipbook, and the picture books.
- On his own: Kumon Thinking Skills K, the logic puzzles and the art kits.
- Play together: the games and the building sets.
Your Handbook ties the year together and points you to each program's own teacher materials for the details.
Our free Kindergarten placement test at tests.timberdoodle.com checks reading, spelling and math one at a time, in about ten minutes, and swaps in a better fit for any subject that needs one. Your child never sees a score, and every activity has a print version if you'd rather use paper. Deciding between PreK and Kindergarten? Start with the Early Education placement test on the same site.
When you customize your kit, each subject has its own grade level setting, so reading can sit at one level and math at another.
Between two levels? Some families start a little hard and ease in, and others start a little easy and race through. We've seen both work well, so go with what suits your child.
Still not sure? Email hello@timberdoodle.com with what your child is working on now, and we'll help you choose.

We received everything and instructions are clear. Just completed our first week with our daughter and we feel really good about it. It was a bit intimidating at first but we got over it fairly quickly.

Love it! Classic = Faith based. It has been night and day from teaching on ourselves with bits and pieces we've found online, and even online schooling trials. This sets a decent schedule that we can modify and make life at home more manageable. Its taken a few weeks to get a grasp on what strengths and weaknesses our kid has, which allows more time on struggle subjects and less time on the easy tasks. The games are top notch for thinking and hands on actual fun. Having physical books and instructions with guides is wonderful. The only thing we haven't explored is possible swapping out or adding higher classes to the subjects we breeze through. Aside from a little frustration while reading and writing (teacher demands perfection) plus our kid is doing kindergarten 1 year early. So when its fun, she can do more, when not.....we need that extra time. Start around 8:30-9 done by 12-1 and 4 days a week.
