What's in the Pre-K Homeschool Kit
This is the year phonics becomes more consistent, number sense grows stronger, and your child begins working through multi-step thinking problems. The kit introduces reading, early math, logic games, science, history, geography, art, and STEM through hands-on materials and guided practice. Handwriting begins here as well, with tools designed for hands that are still developing control.
Classic and nonreligious kits include the same materials at this level. Compare tiers below to see whatâs included, and use the customizer to swap anything that isnât the right fit.
3 Top Features of our Pre-K Curriculum Kits
- Well-rounded curriculum: Our curriculum kits include a variety of resources that meet or exceed most state standards
- Hands-on learning: Each Pre-K kit includes a variety of material and hands-on activities that help students learn in a fun and engaging way
- Flexibility: Every kit can be customized to meet the needs of individual students.

Your side-by-side chart shows every item in this grade and whether it's in the Basic, Complete, or Elite kit.
Paying with ESA, Scholarship, or Charter Funds
Can I use ESA, scholarship, or charter funds for this kit?Yes. Families across the country buy Timberdoodle kits with state scholarships, education savings accounts (ESAs), and charter school fundsâand most families who buy a full year of curriculum from us pay nothing out of pocket. See which programs we work with and how to order with yours.
Do I order here, or through my program's marketplace?
That depends on your program. Some let you shop right here on timberdoodle.com and check out with your program's payment method. Others handle ordering inside their own marketplace, where you search for Timberdoodle and place the order there. The guide above walks through each one. If you're not sure which yours is, email us at mail@timberdoodle.com and we'll tell you.
Will I be charged anything myself?
No. When your program orders directly, your program is billedânot you. If you see a balance-due line on a program order, that's the amount your program pays, not something you owe.
My award won't cover a whole kit. What then?
Kits come in three levelsâBasic, Complete, and Eliteâso there's usually a version that fits your award. Many programs also allow customizing a kit, which lets you swap or drop items before you order. Individual items work too, if you'd rather fill the gaps in what you already own.
Which edition can I useâClassic or Nonreligious?
Your program's rules decide. Most funding programs require non-religious materials, and that's exactly what the Nonreligious edition is: the same kit, built without faith-based materials. Classic is there for families whose program allows it, or who are buying with their own funds.

Each Kit Tier includes specific subjects and courses, starting from the minimum required. Check out the comparisons below to see which Kit Tier is right for you.

Find answers to the most frequently asked questions about this product below:
When choosing a pre-k homeschool curriculum, many parents wonder how it compares to preschool. Pre-K is geared for the child who will be ready to start learning to read next year. So there's more intensity around letter recognition in particular. It's still packed with hands-on learning, but it's really scaffolded around reading and more advanced math/thinking skills.
We asked parents who used our Pre-K Kit how long their student spent on "school." They estimated that they typically spend up to 2 hours a day on their kit.
We pick every item in this kit against one standard: is it the best thing we can find for a child this age? At this grade level, the materials that won that test don't carry religious content either way â so the Classic and Nonreligious kits contain the same items. The single difference is the handbook, where the Classic edition's suggested reading list includes Christian titles.
We flag that difference carefully. We serve charter school families who aren't permitted to buy materials containing religious content, so we label anything that carries any â even a reading list tucked inside a handbook. We'd rather over-label than let a family order something their program isn't allowed to buy.
You'll also notice there's no Bible course in the kit. That's deliberate. We believe Bible study is too important to become one more subject to check off â what your family studies should flex with your children's ages, what they're wrestling with, and what your church is walking through this year. A boxed Bible curriculum can't do that. We've written more about how we think about it here: The Bible: It's Not Just Curriculum.
Yes! One of the best things about a Timberdoodle pre-k curriculum is flexibility. You can use our online kit customizer to easily swap out any item in the kit to better fit your child's unique developmental pace and learning style.
Not sure if itâs time to move up? Totally normal!
A great place to start is with our Placement Tests. We have complete tests for younger kiddos to show exactly where they are. For older students, youâll want to focus on the math and language arts sections to get a good feel for their readiness.
Kids are usually ready to jump into the next kitâwith maybe a few exceptions. If your child is heading into 3rd grade but places into 2nd-grade math, no problem! You might want to grab the 3rd-grade kit and simply swap out the math.
If a subject didnât stick last year, nowâs your chance to figure out why.
- Maybe your child just missed a few concepts (hello, summer review!).
- Maybe the curriculum didnât click.
- Maybe math just isnât his jam (yet).
- Or maybe he needs a little extra supportâand thatâs okay!
One of the best things about homeschooling? Youâre not locked into a one-size-fits-all timeline. You can customize learning to fit your child and help them succeed at their own pace.
Ready to start exploring? Weâre here to help every step of the way!
Nopeâand that's totally normal!
Here's the deal: Accreditation is for schools, not curriculum. Your local school district might be accredited, but their textbooks aren't. Accreditation looks at things like teacher degrees and classroom hours, not the books or materials being used. And since Timberdoodle kits aren't a schoolâthey're a collection of awesome learning toolsâthere's nothing to accredit.
If you see a homeschool program claiming to be "accredited," just remember: it's the school that's accredited, not the curriculum.
And don't worryâno state requires homeschool curriculum to be accredited. (Phew!)
What you really want to know is: "Will Timberdoodle meet my state's homeschool requirements?" In most cases, the answer is yesâwe meet or beat what's needed! However, every state's rules are a little different, so we recommend checking yours. (We even have a quick cheat sheet to help!)
Still scratching your head? Reach outâwe'd love to help you figure it out!
We've been honored with more than 40 awards from top homeschooling resources over the years. We're talking about the Practical Homeschooling Reader Awards, The Old Schoolhouse Excellence in Education Awards, and Cathy Duffy's Top Picks. Our Elementary Curriculum, High School Curriculum, Kindergarten, Middle School Curriculum, and Preschool/Readiness kits have all earned top awards. We've also been recognized for our Boxed Curriculum and even for being Most Unique. These awards are a testament to how much our customers love our kits! Winning them means receiving very high satisfaction ratings from YOU, our amazing homeschooling families. It truly shows that the time and effort we put into creating comprehensive and engaging curriculum pays off!

Well, my mini engineer absolutely love the building and pig games, and she tolerates the worksheets, lol, but she's not a fan of arts and crafts đ luckily, though, my two and a half year old loves arts and crafts, so so far nothing has gone to waste!

I am beyond disappointed not only with the âFaith basedâ material but with how the company handled my inquiry. 1. I ordered the classic elite kit, which their website describes as âFaith Based Materialâ As soon as the box arrived I dove into each and every book and found NO mention God anywhere in the material I received. As an educator myself (previous 7th grade Math teacher) I assumed that a description of âFaith Based Materialâ that I would be getting just that, material that had some mention of God somewhere in the curriculum. This is not the case, nor did the kit come with any of their religious books they have listed for sale on their website. Unfortunately since I opened everything to read the books I can no longer return anything per their policy. To me this seems like false advertising. 2. I emailed to inquire about this, this is what I wrote: I ordered the faith based pre-k elite kit and I am disappointed. There is no mention of God anywhere that I can find. Was I accidentally sent the wrong kit? Thank you. Jessica I didnât go into this assuming the company had false advertising, I thought perhaps maybe I got the wrong order. Not biggy, letâs fix it. I did not get a response to my email so I called. No one answered the phone on multiple occasions so I called the next day. I was accused of yelling at the person. I probably sounded frustrated because this person acted like it was their first day of work and also told me the manager who is also the owner of the company doesnât have a phone. That seemed odd to me. Long story short, I was so excited to find a faith based, family owned business that offered home school curriculum. Unfortunately I will have to look elsewhere to provide a faith based education for my son.

Very well thought out and challenging for my four year old. She definitely struggles with some of the concepts, but I can tell she's getting better with time. She loves Ziggy and the Three Little Pigs games that come in the kit.

Easy for a first time family
Sarah F.
We got the Kindergarten Curriculum package. This was so convenient for a family homeschooling for the first time. All the included curriculum are highly regarded based on our research. Timberdoodle made it so simple for us and we love all of the engaging items that are also included. Our kids are excited.

Such a fun kit!

My only regret from this kit is that I didnât order it sooner. It is amazing! This is the perfect curriculum set for a PreK student. There are a variety of games and learning tools which make learning so much fun.

Awesome Curriculum
Amber C.
Loved looking through all the items and some! Iâve been allowing my kiddo work on some of the items to peak his interest before the school year and heâs having so much fun with the various hands on learning. I love the online scheduler as well as I can graph it for daily or weekly. Great purchase for my TK year.

great custom kit
Bina
We love that there is a customization option for the kits. At first, homeschooling intimidated us as a family so we weren't sure where to go. I saw Timberdoodle and used their kits as recommendations for birthday gifts. When we decided to homeschool, we knew we would go with them. We have purchased six elite kits from them and have not been disappointed at all. We love every single work in the PreK kit. The learning tools are great to use while teaching a lesson. We also love that the work is hands on and has activities within each workbook.
